Race Analysis Runners 9 Going Standard - Polytrack Distance 6 furlongs (1200m)

Race Overview

One of two divisions of this six furlong two year old fillies event, this race catches the eye with a number of interesting contenders representing high quality stables. The prize fund amounts to only  £5,800 but there could potentially be a few fillies here who we’ll hear more about as the season progresses.

On a day of generally modest racing across the country with fast ground limiting the number of runners on show, this race is definitely worth a second glance.

Horse racing Oisin Murphy

Favourite Isaan Queen

Newcomer from the in-form Archie Watson Yard (6-29 in the last fortnight) who has reportedly been shaping well on the gallops. Oisin Murphy (pictured) has been booked for this daugher of War Command whoholds a Group 2 Lowther Stakes entry.

HOrse racing - William Haggas

Other Contenders

There are plenty to note here with the market also worth following, but Ed Dunlop’s potential improver Roxy Art, Richard Hannon’s Chonburi, Eve Johnson Houghton’s Parisean Artiste, and William Haggas’ (pictured) Swiss Air are all contenders. Take Fright is another of interest of those with experience.

Race Analysis

This may well turn out to be a decent race and Roxy Art should go well having shown enough on her debut over course and distance last month to suggest she won’t be too long in winning. A 175,000 guineas daughter of Dutch Art, she was well behind on debut until the penny dropped turning for home and she stayed on nicely to finish fourth of nine to Miss Celestial. The subsequent form of the first two hasn’t been great though, so there has to be a small question mark about the form. She can only improve though.

William Haggas’ SWISS AIR is suggested as a probable winner even though she finished only seventh of nine on her racecourse bow at Yarmouth last month where she was weak in the market. In being beaten just over three lengths by last week’s subsequent Group 2 Duchess of Cambridge Stakes winner Pretty Pollyanna, she was far from disgraced, especially considering the daughter of Oasis Dream met trouble-in-running before staying on inside the final furlong (see below – pink and blue stripes). She’ll know more now and looks a sporting choice to land the spoils.

Parisean Artiste improved from a quiet first run to show more promise when fifth of 14 at Windsor last time out and the step up to six furlongs may bring about a little more progress, while Chonburi has been tried at both five and seven furlongs so far and the intermediate distance here looks about right. Richard Hannon’s Lawman filly is respected but might make more of an impression once contesting nurseries, for which she’ll be handicapped after this run.

Newcomer Isaan Queen represents Archie Watson whose horses have been in good form of late and this daughter of War Command has a decent pedigree. The early market support is signifcant and she holds an entry in the Group 2 Lowther Stakes so may have a proper engine. Hugo Palmer’s Take Fright, the mount of champion jockey Silvestre de Sousa, was getting the hang of things late on first time out at Kempton last month having been slow out of the stalls and would not be out of contention if jumping off on terms with them this time.
