Race Analysis Runners 8 Going Good to Firm (Firm in places) Distance 1mile 2furlongs

Race Overview

A mile-and-a-quarter listed race for fillies and mares aged four years old and upward.

This £50,000 contest is the standout race in Britain on Wednesday, but there is no standout contender with a number of the fillies being very closely matched on previous running earlier this month. It could be a very hard-fought contest.

Horse racing Mark Johnston

Favourite Titi Makfi

Mark Johnston’s filly, a winner of 6 of her 15 career starts, may well start favourite despite having run poorly at Chester last time out

Other Contenders

The ex-Irish pair of Jet Streaming and Wingingit will both have their supporters, while Company Asset showed good form on a number of occasions last season

Race Analysis

On her half-length second in a decent 1m4f listed race at Goodwood earlier this month (see video below) Titi Makfi appears to have leading claims. Some observers felt the Middleham-based filly might have had the run of the race on that occasion, but she did little wrong. A poor effort at Chester last time may wellbe down to the uniquely tight track, but she will also have to cope with much quicker conditions here than at Goodwood. While she is very much respected, conceding 3lb all round makes her vulnerable this time.

Ian Williams’ Jet Streaming was less than four lengths behind Titi Makfi at Goodwood on her first start for her new handler. She was slow to break but stayed on nicely out wide without ever looking likely to land a blow. She progressed well in handicaps in Ireland last season for Adrian Keatley and should strip fitter now.

WINGINGIT was just a neck behind Jet Streaming in that race and was running for the first time since last October. She did well last term in Ireland for Noel Meade and stays up to 1m6f, but she travelled powerfully into the Goodwood race before fading inside the final furlong and  this drop back to 10 furlongs looks a logical step. Andrew Balding’s filly has won on fast ground in the past – albeit at a lower level – and rates the choice in a tight-knit affair.

Kevin Ryan’s Company Asset, second in listed company on very soft ground in France last autumn, makes her seasonal reappearance. She has plenty of ability, but lack of a run and the quick ground might just find her out this time.
