Match Summary

1 Look out for:

Nick Powell. The midfielder is in his third full season at the club and appears settled after various spells on loan after famously signing for Sir Alex Ferguson in 2012. Powell didn’t make the grade at Old Trafford but it’s worth remembering he is still only 24 and has more than enough talent to dominate Championship defences. A target of 15 goals across the campaign is realistic for Powell and he is 15/8 to net anytime during the encounter.

One to Watch: Jarrod Bowen

Bowen made his debut for the club during the 2016/17 season when the Tigers ultimately lost their Premier League status. The midfielder only featured nine times in all competitions but showed flashes of his ability and the player had his suitors – notably Everton – but rejected the Merseysiders’ advances as Hull prepared for life in the Championship.

Bowen went on to have a career-best season, hitting a stunning 14 efforts from 42 matches, averaging a goal every three games – he is the danger man in this Hull squad. The 21-year-old will inevitably return to the big time, but for now his objective is get the Tigers up the table and he is 10/1 to open proceedings.

This Championship preview begins with 11th-placed Wigan. Last year’s runaway League One winners should be reasonably pleased with their start back in English football’s second tier and a mid-table finish is a fair target.

The Latics, who were last in the division in the 2016-17 campaign, went back down at the first time of asking, but look far more equipped to stave off immediate relegation this time around. Boss Paul Cook may ring the changes after the disappointing 2-0 defeat away at Brentford, with leading marksman Will Grigg returning at the expense of James Vaughan. Darron Gibson is expected to replace Sam Morsy who received his marching orders at Griffin Park.

Tigers manager Neil Adkins earned some much-needed respite after his men secured a 2-0 win against Ipswich. Hull jumped out of the bottom three and will probably go with the same line-up that secured the points.

Manchester United youth graduates Will Keane and Fraizer Campbell, alongside Chris Martin, comprise the attacking options at Adkins’ disposal and the trio will battle it out for the lone striker’s position over the course of the campaign.

Wigan Athletic vs Hull City Betting Tips, Preview & Predictions

Nick Powell has the ability to dominate matches at this level, and he should be a force as Wigan take on Hull

Seventeenth-placed Hull travel to Wigan on Tuesday evening with only three points separating the teams. The Latics have a very respectable three wins, three losses and one draw to their name, but could comfortably be higher in the table. Goals have not been an issue for Cook’s men, who have 11 in the league, but it is at the other end Wigan need to tighten up. The hosts have shipped 10 and must be conscious of the slender margin for error in one of the most competitive leagues in Europe.

Championship football predictions for this duel reveal Wigan at 10/11 to claim the victory. The Latics are historically far stronger on home soil and will expect to get back to winning ways.

Additional Championship football predictions show Hull at 3/1 to register back-to-back wins. The Tigers only won four times on the road last year but smashed 70 goals across the campaign and do carry a goal threat.

The draw can be found at 5/2 in the latest football betting predictions market and could be a shrewd in-play option if the scores are level at the hour mark.

Grigg is the 4/1 favourite to strike first in this Championship preview. The famous Northern Ireland striker struggled for goals when the Latics achieved promotion in 2016, but is far more comfortable this time out. The former MK Dons forward is two efforts away from matching his haul of five from two seasons ago.

Campbell is 13/2 in the same market and will try to exploit the Wigan backline with his searing pace. The one-time England international has never been prolific but will relish his chances against a leaky defence.

Predicted Score: Wigan Athletic 1 - 1 Hull City
