In a sentence: The first ever Premier League meeting between Watford and Huddersfield Town will take place at Vicarage Road this weekend.

Last time: Huddersfield recorded a 3-1 victory over Watford when the two teams locked horns during the 2014-15 Championship season. It was a result that saw promotion hopefuls Watford lose ground on the top six in England’s second tier.

This time: Watford are 8/11 to win with Huddersfield at 4/1 and the draw 3/1.

You might remember: Danny Ward’s hat-trick helped Huddersfield finish the 2013-14 Championship season with a 4-1 win at Watford – ending the home side’s 10-game unbeaten run in the process.

Betting Tips & Predictions

Huddersfield have only scored three times in their eight Premier League away matches this term and it is difficult to imagine them winning at Watford this weekend. This season’s Premier League has already thrown up some surprise results, however, and the old Championship rivals could well play out an entertaining affair at Vicarage Road.

Watford are 8/11 to win and will be looking to bounce back from their 2-1 defeat at Palace on Tuesday night. The Hornets have beaten Arsenal and drawn with Tottenham Hotspur at Vicarage Road this season and will know that these are the type of matches they have to win if they are to challenge for a European position come the end of the season.

Huddersfield are 4/1 as they go in search of just their second away win of the season. That said, whether David Wagner’s side survive in the Premier League this term will surely depend on their form at the John Smith’s Stadium. They have struggled on their travels, but are certainly capable of causing a few problems this weekend.

The draw is 3/1 and it is worth pointing out that Watford have shared the points in three of their eight home Premier League matches this season. Watford have also only scored 10 home league goals this season, while Huddersfield have netted just once on their travels meaning that a low-scoring draw could be the order of the day.

Richarlison is 15/8 to score any time for Watford. The Brazilian has been in excellent form for the Hornets this season and with his team expected to dominate the ball, the attacker should have plenty of chances to find the back of the net.

Tom Ince is 21/2 to open the scoring this weekend. The 25-year-old, along with his teammates, has struggled to perform on the road this season, but if Huddersfield can feed the attacker in dangerous areas, he certainly has the quality to find the back of the net.

Match Summary

Look out for:

The total goals market. Four or more goals have been scored in five of the last six fixtures between these two teams. Over 4.5 goals can be backed at 15/2, while it is 20/1 that over 5.5 goals are scored during the clash at Vicarage Road.

We fancy:

Watford to win and Richarlison to score at 9/4. The 20-year-old is a player that Huddersfield’s back four will not relish facing this weekend.

It’s a long shot, but:

Correct score of 5-0 Watford at 80/1. When the Hornets get it right, they are a formidable team in the final third of the field. Marco Silva’s side recently scored twice at home to Manchester United and certainly have the capabilities of putting a travel-sick Huddersfield team to the sword.
