17/03/2018 Kick Off:  3:00 pm Stadium of Light V Predicted Score:2 - 0

Away Preston North End

Match Summary

1 Look out for:

Sean Maguire. Having spent three months on the sidelines injured, the Irish attacking midfielder has been in inspired form since his return. Maguire has four goals in his last three games, despite coming on as a substitute in two of them. At 3/2 to score anytime, he is featuring heavily in football bet tips and predictions.

2 We fancy:

Preston to win to nil at 13/5. Sunderland have failed to score in their last two games and they are judged to be the least likely side to score in this weeks Championship preview.

3 It's a long shot, but…

Callum Robinson to score two or more at 12/1. The forward only has two to his name this season, but has been playing further forward and is facing the league’s worst defence.

Team News

Sunderland's Last Six:

Won: 0 Drawn: 2 Lost: 4

Ty Browning and Duncan Watmore are out for the remainder of the season for Chris Coleman’s side. The manager is extremely short on defenders with Paddy McNair suffering from a groin injury and Marc Wilson similarly afflicted.

Darron Gibson remains a few weeks away from a return, having also suffered a groin injury back in January. Coleman will be able to welcome back Jake Clarke-Salter, although he will have to replace Jason Steele, who was sent off against QPR.

Preston North End's Last Six:

Won: 2 Drawn: 2 Lost: 2

Greg Cunningham came off injured in Preston’s defeat to Fulham and is a major doubt for this weekend’s match.

Alex Neil should be able to welcome back Tom Clarke though, who featured on the bench in their last match.

Sunderland vs Preston North End Betting Tips, Preview & Predictions

Sunderland host Preston in the Championship on Saturday, with the Black Cats looking doomed to the drop

Preston travel to Sunderland this weekend, having failed to turn good performances into results in recent weeks. Regardless of this, football betting tips for the weekend put the Lilywhites as overwhelming favourites, given Coleman’s side’s poor form.

Sunderland are 12/5 to win, and are leaving it late if they are to avoid relegation come the end of the season. The majority of Championship predictions see this happening, and a defeat to Preston would further hammer the nail into their coffin.

Preston are 5/4 to win and have will have been frustrated to concede an injury-time loser to Fulham, having matched the in-form side for 90 minutes. With two wins from three, Neil’s side are indisputably the stronger of the two coming into the game, and are still in with an outside chance of making the play-offs.

A draw is 9/2 which, given the 29-point disparity between the sides would come as a surprise. However football score predictions are never certainties and Sunderland have taken a point from Preston already this season.

Ashley Fletcher is 9/4 to score anytime, despite not having scored for Sunderland yet. The Black Cats are really missing Lewis Grabban, who has scored three times more than Coleman’s side in the last three games.

Tom Barkhuizen is 2/1 to score anytime and has been on fine attacking form from the left of midfield this season. In addition to his eight goals, the winger has come up with six assists, making him Preston’s most productive player.

Predicted Score: Sunderland 2 - 0 Preston North End
