In a sentence: In-form Hibernian travel to a St Johnstone side still not mathematically safe from the drop.

Last time: Veteran Steven MacLean struck a stoppage time winner for the Saints when the sides met back in November. The clash ended 2-1 to the visitors on the day.

This time: St Johnstone are 11/5 for the three points, while Hibernian are 11/10 and the draw is 3/1.

You might remember: Hibs’ mauling back in 2010. The infamous Kenny Deuchar hit a couple in the 5-1 rout and it was an afternoon to forget for then-boss John Hughes.

Betting Tips & Predictions

St Johnstone welcome Hibernian to McDiarmid Park for this Scottish Premiership fixture

Scottish Premiership predictions tend to favour the top four, but there is great variation on offer as the business end of the campaign kicks in. As the likes of Partick Thistle and Dundee fight for their lives, don’t rule out some shock results between now and May.

It has been a mixed bag for the Saints, recently trouncing Dundee 4-0 and earning their biggest win of the term to date. The result could not have arrived at a better time for a team who have struggled to string a consistent run of results together, and they are still at least three or four victories from guaranteeing their status in Scotland’s top flight next year.

In contrast, Lennon’s side are coming into form at just the right time, a mere point behind Aberdeen with a Europa League qualification berth a realistic goal. This would be a remarkable feat considering they were in the Championship last season.

Football predictions for this showdown include the Perth-based hosts at 11/5 to register back-to-back wins, and this would be the perfect tonic going into the final stages of a gruelling campaign. St Johnstone were resolute enough to take a point from champions-elect Celtic, and must channel a similar level of effort and belief against a team they know they can beat.

Hibernian are 11/10 to record another success and will fancy their chances. Lennon’s men have a comfortable eight-point cushion over Killie and their aspirations of European football next year are justified. As the slight favourites, experience should ultimately tell, recording a fourth success from the last five league fixtures.

A deadlock is 3/1, and it is the visitors who have surprisingly drawn over a third of their games since promotion back to the Premiership. Hibs would be battling it out with Rangers for second if they had converted just three of their nine stalemates and a similar outcome on Friday seems unlikely given their stellar form of the last six weeks.

Joint top scorer MacLean is 13/3 to open proceedings, and the journeyman attacker looks a good bet, particularly as the Scot is still a regular starter. The 35-year-old may not have hit the heights of last term but is sure to make himself a nuisance to the opposing rearguard.

Similarly, Jamie Maclaren is 10/2 in the same football predictions market and will want to repeat his Edinburgh derby exploits. The Australian striker has started reasonably well in life in Scotland, after his January move from parent club SV Darmstadt 98. He goes in search of a third goal in what would be his seventh appearance.

Match Summary

1

Look out for:

There to be more goals in the second-half at 2/1. In their previous matches, Wright’s side bagged three of their four strikes after the break while Hibs converted twice. Other popular football score predictions in the market show an inviting 2-2 scoreline at 27/2.

2

We fancy:

The both teams to score predictions tip at evens. St Johnstone and Hibs will come in to the clash off the back of good results and this fixture has delivered over the years.

3

It’s a long shot, but:

Given the confidence of the travelling party, coupled with Lennon’s managerial expertise in the division, anything but a Hibernian win would be a surprise. Despite this, the Saints are still in a relegation scrap and fighting for their lives and a 3-1 triumph is priced at 35/1, concluding this fixture’s football betting predictions.
