In a sentence: Stoke City’s battle to escape the Premier League relegation zone will continue when they travel to fellow strugglers Southampton this weekend.

Last time: Stoke recorded a 2-1 victory when the pair met at the Bet365 Stadium earlier this season, with Peter Crouch netting an 85th-minute winner for the home side.

This time: Southampton are 4/5 to collect all three points with Stoke at 21/5 and the draw available at 14/5.

You might remember: The first ever Premier League meeting between the two teams took place in December 2012, and it was an extremely eventful 3-3 draw – Cameron Jerome coming up with a 90th-minute leveller for the Potters.

Southampton spent big on Guido Carrilo but the forward is still waiting for his first goal

Stoke City will look to make it three straight wins over Southampton when the two teams meet in the Premier League at St Mary’s this weekend. Stoke recorded a 1-0 victory in the corresponding match last season, and also ran out 2-1 winners at the Bet365 Stadium back in September. The Potters have actually only lost one of their last six Premier League meetings with the Saints, while just one point and three positions separate the two teams in the Premier League table with 28 matches of the season played.

Southampton are 4/5 to triumph as the Saints look to record just their fourth home Premier League win of the season. A difficult campaign has left Mauricio Pellegrino’s side in 16th position in the table – just one point above the relegation zone. Southampton have only lost one of their last six in the Premier League, however, and that was a 2-0 defeat to in-form Liverpool earlier this month. That said, the struggling South Coast outfit have not won a home Premier League match since November 26.

Stoke are 21/5 to collect all three points as Paul Lambert looks to steer the club out of the bottom three. The Potters conceded late to draw at Leicester City last weekend, and that was their third draw in their last four Premier League matches. Stoke have only lost once in the league since January 15, but they remain in 19th position in the table – one point off 17th-placed Crystal Palace. There is no question that Lambert’s side are in a relegation scrap with just 10 games of the campaign left to play, but they could move out of the bottom three with a win here.

The draw is 14/5, and as mentioned, Stoke have drawn three of their last four Premier League matches. Southampton have also shared the points in three of their last five home league fixtures, and the Saints have drawn six of their 15 league games at St Mary’s this term. It seems a fair price when considering that both managers will be desperate to avoid what would be a damaging defeat on the South Coast this weekend.

Guido Carrillo is 9/2 in the first goalscorer market as the 26-year-old goes in search of his first Southampton goal since a January move from Monaco. The striker has shown plenty of promise in his first three league appearances, and will be fired-up to register at St Mary’s this weekend. It is 15/8, meanwhile, that the Argentine registers at any point during the 90 minutes.

Xherdan Shaqiri is 10/1 in the first goalscorer market this weekend. The 26-year-old made it three goals in his last three Premier League appearances against Leicester last weekend, with the Swiss international thriving since Lambert replaced Mark Hughes as head coach. It is 33/1, meanwhile, that the former Bayern Munich attacker nets two or more goals for Stoke in this match.

Match Summary

1

Look out for:

There has not been more than three goals scored in this particular fixture since October 2014, while neither team has been full of goals in recent weeks. It is 47/50 that under 2.5 goals are scored at St Mary’s, while under 1.5 is available to be backed at 139/50.

2

We fancy:

Correct score of 1-1 is available at 13/2. Both teams will enter the match off the back of Premier League draws, and Southampton have drawn six times at St Mary’s in the league this term. It does appear a likely result in this particular fixture.

3

It’s a long shot, but:

Stoke have only won once away from home in the Premier League this season, but the Potters were impressive at Leicester last weekend, and they can be backed as high as 28/1 to recorded a 2-0 victory at Southampton.
