In a sentence: Struggling Southampton, who sit just two points above the relegation zone, host third-placed Liverpool at St. Mary’s.

Last time: The last league meeting at St. Mary’s was a dour 0-0 in November 2016.

This time: Southampton are 15/4 to win this one, while Liverpool are 5/6 and the draw is 11/4.

You might remember: A stunning comeback in March 2016 when the Saints came from two goals down to win 3-2 at St Mary’s. Philippe Coutinho and Daniel Sturridge had given the Reds a two-goal lead before a Sadio Mane brace and a Graziano Pelle strike turned the game around.

Betting Tips & Predictions

Liverpool forward Sadio Mane will face former club Southampton in this Premier League encounter

The Saints, who are in 15th position, take on a Liverpool side that can count five ex-Southampton players among their ranks. Jurgen Klopp’s men have won just once in the last six meetings with Southampton, a 3-0 win at Anfield in November.

Southampton are 15/4 to win here but have only won three times at home in the league this season. They have stacked up the draws with six of their home games ending all even, while losing five times. They are unbeaten in their last six games in all competitions though.

Liverpool are 5/6 to come away with all three points. The Reds have won six times on their travels this season, drawing four times and losing just three of those games.

The draw is 11/4 and there have been two goalless scorelines in the last four league meetings between the teams. Another 0-0 stalemate here is priced at 14/1, while a 1-1 draw is 7/1.

Sadio Mane is 11/2 to score the first goal of the game against his old club, and the Senegalese international has six league goals to his name. In light of Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino’s superb goalscoring form, Liverpool’s No.19 could do with contributing a few more for his side.

New Saints signing Guido Carillo is 7/1 to open the scoring for Southampton. With top scorer Austin out injured, who has six goals so far this term, it will be up to Carillo and the misfiring Shane Long and Manolo Gabbiadini to fight it out for a starting position. Gabbiadini is 5/2 to score at any time during the game while Long is 2/1.

Match Summary

1

Look out for:

Salah to continue his great goalscoring run of form. The Egyptian winger has 21 Premier League goals so far this season and is 11/10 to score anytime in the match. A 2-1 result for Liverpool is 8/1, rising to 28/1 with Salah as the first scorer.

2

We fancy:

Virgil van Dijk to score and Liverpool to win at 9/1. The big Dutch centre-half could come back to haunt his old side by scoring from a set piece. Van Dijk has been getting closer and closer to scoring his first Premier League goal for the Reds.

3

It’s a long shot, but:

Salah is 35/1 to score a hat-trick. The ex-Roma man is having the season of his life scoring more league goals than he ever had in his career until now. Last week’s Messi-esque goal was a highlight, and the odds are 13/8 for Salah to score and Liverpool to win.
