In a sentence: With Preston knocking on the door of the Championship play-offs, a win over Sheffield Wednesday this week would be a huge step forward.

Last time: Preston came away from the earlier fixture victorious after a 1-0 win. Is that a Championship preview of the return affair?

This time: A home win is 19/10, a draw is 2/1 and a Preston win is at 8/5.

You might remember: The clash earlier on in the season between these two was actually the first game of the season.

Sheffield Wednesday could do with another win to pull away from the drop

Given the recent form of these two sides, its quite reasonable to expect a Preston win, especially due to the fact that the side will be spurred on by the prospect of jumping into the top six of the Championship with only a handful of games to go, provided results go their way. A Preston win is at 8/5 but a more specific 2-0 is at 11/1, with 2-1 being 9/1 and a slightly more ambitious 3-1 being priced at 22/1 in the football score predictions market.

Of course, Sheffield Wednesday are involved in this fixture so it’s only fair to highlight their odds for a win could be, as 1-0 is at 13/2, but 2-0 is at 14/1 which shows the different in odds between the two clubs at the moment. If you do want to look at both teams to score predictions, that’s priced at Evens, while you can get 8/11 for both teams not to score.

But with only two draws between the two in their recent run of fixtures leading up to this game, a 1-1 is at 11/2, a 2-2 is at 18/1 and a rather ambitious 3-3 draw is priced at a quite high 80/1, even though the football betting predictions don’t tend that way. If that’s what you’re fancying, by all means go for it but it’s not without warning, and would rank as one of the more outlandish Championship predictions.

Match Summary

Look out for:

Preston have found a way to get results, but a repeat of Wednesday’s last win against Leeds (2-1, meaning a bet of three goals in the game) is at 16/5.

We fancy:

Nothing too outrageous, a run of the mill 2-0 Preston win at 11/1, which would be one of the more conservative football predictions around.

It's a long shot, but:

A 4-4 is almost out of the question, but could be someone’s poison of choice with odds as long as 200/1. If that comes in, though, then the football predictions experts will be left red-faced.
