In a sentence: Sheffield Wednesday will look to protect a six-game unbeaten run against Cardiff City when they welcome the Welsh outfit to Hillsborough this weekend.

Last time: The pair played out a 1-1 draw in the reverse match at the Cardiff City Stadium back in September 2017. Sol Bamba scored late for Cardiff to cancel out a first-half effort from Gary Hooper.

This time: Sheffield Wednesday to win is available at 2/1 with Cardiff at 7/4 and the draw available at 23/10.

You might remember: The first ever Championship meeting between these two teams occurred in November 2005, and a strong performance from Cardiff saw the Bluebirds record a 3-1 win. Cameron Jerome scored a brace for the visitors.

Cardiff City’s Kenneth Zohore hasn’t scored since Boxing Day but remains a genuine threat to opposing defences

Not since September 2014 have Cardiff beaten Sheffield Wednesday, with the Owls winning two and drawing four of their last six Championship matches against the Welsh club. The points were shared in a 1-1 draw in the reverse fixture earlier this season, but third-placed Cardiff will enter this match 14 positions and 19 points above their opponents in the Championship table.

Sheffield Wednesday are 2/1 to collect all three points on home soil. The Owls have won four, drawn five and lost four of their 13 home Championship fixtures this season, but have suffered three successive league defeats at Hillsborough. It will be their first home match in the Championship since Burton Albion won 3-0 on New Year’s Day.

Cardiff are 7/4 to triumph as the Welsh outfit look to build on their thumping victory over Sunderland last weekend. Neil Warnock’s side entered the clash with the Black Cats off the back of four successive league defeats, but returned to winning ways with a four-goal success over Chris Coleman’s team. It was a victory that left them third in the table – just two points shy of second-placed Derby County after 27 matches.

The draw is available at 23/10, and as mentioned, Sheffield Wednesday have drawn five of their 13 home Championship matches this season. Cardiff, however, have only shared the points in two of their 13 league fixtures on the road. It is also worth remembering that four of the last six Championship fixtures between these two teams have finished with a share of the spoils.

Jordan Rhodes is 11/2 in the first goalscorer market as the 27-year-old goes in search of his fifth Championship goal of the campaign. Rhodes last netted on Boxing Day, and it is 10/1 that the Sheffield Wednesday forward returns to the scoresheet with two or more goals during the 90 minutes of football.

Kenneth Zohore is 11/2 in the first goalscorer market this weekend, while the Cardiff forward can be backed at 11/1 to score two or more goals. The 23-year-old has not scored since Boxing Day, although he played a key role in Cardiff recording a 4-0 win over Sunderland last time out.

Match Summary

Look out for:

The match result and both teams to score market has some excellent value. Sheffield Wednesday can be backed at 5/1, while Cardiff are available at 23/5 under the same circumstances. The draw in this market is best priced at 19/5.

We fancy:

Correct score of 1-1 is available at 57/10. It promises to be a tight affair at Hillsborough this weekend, and it would probably be fair to say that both managers would take a point if that were offered ahead of kickoff.

It’s a long shot, but:

Cardiff are available at 30/1 to win 3-0. The Welsh outfit really found their scoring boots against Sunderland last weekend, and Sheffield Wednesday have conceded 18 times in their 13 home Championship matches this season.
