In a sentence: Sheffield Wednesday welcome Birmingham to Hillsborough on Saturday, in what is a huge game in the lower reaches of the Championship.

Last time: Isaac Vassel scored the only goal of the game 15 minutes from time when the teams met at St Andrew’s towards the end of September, securing the three points for the hosts.

This time: Sheffield Wednesday are 6/5 for the win, while Birmingham are 14/5 and the draw is 9/4.

You might remember: Another late show from the Blues at St Andrew’s last season. Gary Hooper broke the deadlock for Wednesday with a quarter of an hour remaining, before a Clayton Donaldson penalty and 92nd minute goal from Lukas Jutkiewicz sealed a dramatic comeback win for the hosts.

Betting Tips & Predictions

Sheffield Wednesday’s famous Hillsborough Stadium will host this game

Both of these sides have underperformed so far this season, and only really have survival in the Championship left to play for. Birmingham are in a much more perilous position than Sheffield Wednesday, but victory for the visitors in this one would drag their hosts down into the mire.

Wednesday are 6/5 to pick up a three points which could take them 10 points clear of the relegation zone, depending on how other results go at the weekend. After losing out in the semi-finals of the play-offs against Huddersfield last term, Owls supporters will hope that their side can at least finish this season strongly and offer some enthusiasm for the next campaign.

Birmingham are 14/5 for the win, which would bring them to within three points of Wednesday. Considering just three points separate bottom club Burton from 19th placed Barnsley, games against teams towards the foot of the table are crucial for the Blues in their quest to avoid what would be a disastrous drop to League One. The midweek victory over fellow strugglers Sunderland was a huge one, and they’ll be after a repeat in this game.

There hasn’t been a draw in the last five meetings between these two, but the odds are 9/4 on this game finishing with honours even. It wouldn’t be the worst result for either side bearing in mind Birmingham are away from home, although it would be another demoralising setback for the Hillsborough faithful.

Jordan Rhodes is the 5/1 favourite to open the scoring, despite struggling for goals this term. The striker only has three for the Owls so far this season, but he could be worth a shout to score in a home win at 5/2. Sam Gallagher is Birmingham’s top scorer with six goals in the Championship, and he’s priced 11/2 for the same bet, and 15/2 to break the deadlock.

Match Summary

Look out for:

A close call. With so much riding on this game, we could be in for a cagey affair. Wednesday are 11/2 to record a 1-0 victory, while Birmingham are 9/1 to take the spoils by the same margin of victory.

We fancy:

Wednesday to win to nil at 27/11. The Owls are favourites for the game, while the visitors have only managed to score 19 times in their 29 games so far.

It’s a long shot, but:

Atdhe Nuhiu to score the only goal of the game is 22/1. The Kosovo international has scored three of Wednesday’s last four goals, so he’s in good form and a likely candidate to bag the winner.
