In a sentence: With Villa chasing automatic promotion, can Sheffield Wednesday keep them out of the top two for the time being?

Last time: Wednesday left the Midlands with all three points as they defeated Villa 2-1 in early November.

This time: Sheffield Wednesday are 9/5, a draw is 23/10 and a Villa win is 13/10.

You might remember: When Villa lost at home earlier in the season, they were in seventh place and just outside the play-off spots.

Betting Tips & Predictions

Sheffield Wednesday host Aston Villa at Hillsborough in the Championship on Saturday

Aston Villa come into this one as  favourites at 13/10, with a 3-1 win being priced at 20/1, while a more conservative 1-0 is at 7/1. Their recent form suggests that a win is due for Steve Bruce’s side after their draw against Preston and the loss against Fulham, but with automatic promotion on the line Villa could come out all guns blazing.

As for the home side, they’re priced at 9/5. Wednesday are 8/1 to snatch a 1-0 win and 14/1 for a more comprehensive 2-0 win as they look to consolidate what’s a disappointing mid-table position after last season’s play-off appearance. The draw is available at 23/10, and a 1-1 scoreline is priced at 6/1 which could be worth a shout.

If it’s a goal fest you’re looking for, a 4-0 Villa win is 50/1 and to go one better at 5-0 is priced at 200/1. It’s not very likely that Wednesday will smash Bruce’s side though, and a 3-1 win can get you odds of 25/1, which might not be all that bad considering the inconsistent form of both sides involved.

Match Summary

1

Look out for:

Visiting Villans. Aston Villa are looking to get back on the winning trail after a couple of disappointing results, and they’re 6/1 to win both halves in this one.

2

We fancy:

A 2-0 Villa win at 14/1. The visitors have some ground to make up in the race for automatic promotion, which could lead to a comfortable victory at the weekend.

3

It’s a long shot, but:

A high scoring game in the Championship is always enjoyable, especially when the underdog causes the upset. Wednesday are 250/1 to thrash Villa 5-0, which would be some bet if it came in.
