Match Summary

1 Look out for:

Ruben Neves, who is 4/1 in the anytime scorer market. The Wolves maestro has cemented a place at the heart of the Portugal midfield and will have licence to get forward as partner William Carvalho shields the defence. Any avid fan of English football will know Neves is lethal from distance and won’t need many opportunities to make his mark on the contest.

One to Watch: Joao Cancelo

Eyebrows were raised when Juventus paid in the region of €40m for Joao Cancelo after a mixed season on loan at rivals Inter during the 2017-18 campaign. The right-back was in and out of the side and also suffered a spell on the sidelines, in what was a frustrating campaign for the Portuguese talent. Cancelo subsequently signed for the Bianconeri in June and has been one of the standout performers for Max Allegri’s side, earning a recall to the national team in the process. The adventurous stopper loves to get forward, much in the same vein as Dani Alves and Marcelo, and will be a threat in the final third. Cancelo is an attractive 20/1 to net anytime.

This international friendly preview begins with Scotland. Alex McLeish is likely to ring the changes, with Oliver McBurnie, James Forrest and Stuart Armstrong set for starts. McBurnie has scored four times for Swansea City following the Welsh outfit’s relegation to the Championship.

Celtic midfielder Forrest hit an astonishing quadruple against St Johnstone before international duty and was a surprising omission from the team who started against Israel. Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay should also get a chance to add to his three caps.

Portugal were without talisman Cristiano Ronaldo after the superstar and Fernando Santos mutually agreed the Juventus star would sit out the double-header. Santos lined up with a trio of Silvas against Poland, with Andre and Bernardo starring from the opening whistle. Euro 2016 hero Eder could get his chance at Hampden Park alongside Wolverhampton Wanderers winger Helder Costa, who received his maiden call up to the Selecao.

Former Swansea loanee Renato Sanches returned to the squad after a two-year international exile following a bright start to the domestic campaign with Bayern Munich.

Scotland vs Portugal Football Betting Tips, Preview & Predictions

Will Portugal continue their strong post-World Cup form against Scotland?

Scotland were left disappointed after their 2-1 loss to Israel on Thursday. The Tartan Army opened the scoring but were incredibly lucky, and the performance drew widespread criticism of both the players and manager. Despite the result, Scotland still sit top of their Nations League group, ahead of Israel and Albania, but this is likely to change quickly unless they improve in all areas of the pitch.

Goalkeeper Allan McGregor was the only player to emerge with any credit and the friendly with Portugal is the perfect opportunity for Alex McLeish to give some others a chance to impress. Elsewhere, the Selecao made it two Nations League wins from two after they beat Poland 3-2 in a highly-entertaining 90 minutes. Portugal sit five points clear of the Eagles and Italy and, barring a miracle, have the group sewn up.

Football predictions for this duel highlight Scotland at 10/3 to pick up an important victory. Realistically, the hosts are going to struggle to see much of the ball and will rely on set pieces to take something from the occasion. The pressure is beginning to build on McLeish and the ex-Rangers boss will expect an immediate reaction from his men.

Further international friendly predictions show Portugal at 21/20 to claim the win. This is the expected outcome and even if Santos does ring the changes, the Euro 2016 victors will relish their chances of facing a leaky rearguard who are bereft of confidence.

The stalemate is 9/4 in the latest football betting predictions market and much will depend on the opening 30 minutes. If Scotland are on level terms and have grown into the contest, a credible draw could have value.

Andre Silva is the 9/2 favourite to open the scoring in this international friendly preview. The Sevilla loanee is in red hot form for both club and country and can’t stop scoring. If Silva gets a sniff, expect him to get on the scoresheet.

Oliver McBurnie is 13/2 in the same first scorer market. The burly striker knows there are forward places up for grabs in this Scotland team and will be eager to impress. Other popular football betting tips for the weekend include over 2.5 goals, which is 5/4, and the both teams to score predictions offer, available at 21/20.

Predicted Score: Scotland 1 - 3 Portugal
