Real Madrid vs Athletic Bilbao Betting Tips, Preview & Predictions

In a sentence: Wednesday’s La Liga preview features Real Madrid, who welcome a struggling Athletic Bilbao to the Bernabeu.

Last time: Bilbao held Madrid to a draw in the reverse fixture, with Jose Angel Ziganda’s side putting in a resolute defensive performance.

This time: Real Madrid are 1/4 to win, Atletic Bilbao are 13/1 and a draw is 6/1.

You might remember: Bilbao last won this fixture in 2005, as goals from Asier Del Horno and Andoni Iraola saw the northern club overcome Madrid, despite Zinedine Zidane’s appearance off the bench.

Betting Tips & Predictions

Real Madrid Ronaldo football

Fresh from his Champions League heroics, Cristiano Ronaldo will be as dangerous as ever in this La Liga clash against Athletic Bilbao

Real Madrid look to continue their pressure on city rivals Atletico with another win this Wednesday against Athletic Bilbao. Los Leones could drop into 16th place in the league if they lose, with La Liga predictions forecasting just that.

Madrid are 1/4 to win, and have received a major morale boost with the controversial last minute winner in the Champions League against Juventus. With their domestic campaign fallen by the wayside, Zidane’s side can prioritise winning a third consecutive European trophy, which few football predictions would bet against.

Athletic Bilbao are 13/1 to win, and haven’t beaten Madrid since 2015. Ziganda still has a decent squad at his disposal however, and Aritz Adruiz, scorer in that 1-0 win over their opponents, is due a goal.

A draw is 6/1, and having already picked up a point against Madrid this season, Bilbao will be encouraged to put in a similar performance.

Ronaldo is 4/9 to score anytime, and may well play as a centre-forward, if indeed Bale is fielded in place of Karim Benzema.

Raul Garcia is 5/1 to score against Madrid, having hit the target in Bilbao’s last game, a defeat to Deportivo. Garcia has played behind the striker this season, and has accrued nine goals and two assists.

Predicted Score: Real Madrid CF 3 - 1 Athletic Bilbao

Match Summary

1

Look out for:

Ineki Williams. Williams will likely be pushed out onto the wing to accommodate Adruiz, but the pacey forward is a constant threat wherever he plays. At just 23 years of age, He looks a real prospect and is becoming a regular feature in football bet tips and predictions, and is 13/5 to score anytime.

2

We fancy:

Madrid to win and both teams to score. Athletic are a threat going forward, but football score predictions all see Madrid taking the win.

3

It's a long shot, but:

Aduriz to score last at 10/1. Madrid conceded late in their last game, and Aduriz’s height is a useful tool when a team is pushing forward looking to rescue a game.
