In a sentence: Reading host Leeds this weekend, looking for their first win in six games.

Last time: Reading won the reverse fixture, thanks to a stoppage time penalty save from Vito Mannone. The Royals scored late on themselves, with substitute Mo Barrow slipping a low shot past Andy Lonergan.

This time: Reading are 6/4 to win, Leeds are 2/1 and a draw is 9/4.

You might remember: Last season’s edition of this fixture was the first time that Reading had beaten Leeds in five attempts. Yann Kermorgant scored the only goal of the game, with the Royals protecting the lead for 70 minutes.

Reading play Leeds United at the Madejski this weekend, with Jaap Stam’s side still harbouring fears of relegation

Leeds United have weathered a tough run of fixtures, having lost to Wolves and Middlesbrough in their last two games. In theory Reading will should prove less of a problem, but Stam’s side are desperate for a win to dispel fears of relegation.

Reading are 6/4 to win, and will be glad to welcome back John Swift, who made his return from injury midweek as a substitute. The Royals have failed to live up to last season’s promotion push, and instead have had to look down instead of up with just five points in between them and the relegation zone.

Leeds are 2/1 to beat Reading, and certainly have form on their side coming into the game. A victory for Paul Heckinbottom would see them double Reading’s number of wins so far this season.

A draw is 9/4 and Reading have had no shortage of parities in the last few weeks. The two sides have five draws between them in their last five games, and with points so valuable at the bottom of the table, one would keep Stam’s side on track for survival.

Modou Barrow is 14/5 to score anytime and is leading Reading’s goalscoring chart from the left wing. With Stam’s strikers struggling to come up with the goods, the Gambian has stepped up.

Pierre-Michel Lasogga is 6/4 to score against Reading and with Roofe injured, will have to carry the attacking threat alone.

Match Summary

Look out for:

Counter attacks. Jaap Stam has constructed a possession based system at Reading, contrasting with Leeds’ counter-attacking game. With Reading pushing for a win, we may well see another goal on the break for Heckinbottom’s side. Pacy winger Ezgjan Alioski is 7/2 to score anytime.

We fancy:

Both teams to score at 5/6. The sides have both conceded 49 goals this season, and with defensive injuries are likely to see that number increase this weekend.

It’s a long shot, but:

Swift to score first at 14/1. The attacking midfielder only has one goal this season, but will be fresh having only played for 13 minutes midweek.
