Match Summary

1 Look out for:

Andre Silva hit a hat-trick on his La Liga debut, bettering last year’s haul with parent club Milan in 23 less appearances. The Portuguese forward arrived amidst much fanfare after he sealed a big-money move from Porto last summer and was expected to be the man to fire the Rossoneri to a top-four berth. The campaign proved to be incredibly underwhelming for both the player and club, but the Sevilla loanee now looks back to his best. The 22-year-old is available at 6/1 to net anytime.

2 We fancy:

Federico Chiesa is destined for the very top, so it promises to be a long night for Portugal full-back Raphael Guerreiro. The Fiorentina livewire                                                                                                            is 6/2 to score last.

3 It's a long shot, but…

The Selecao are not the most flamboyant but know how to get the job done. Italy are similar, but it’s a new era for the Azzurri with a host of up-and-coming talents eager to impress. If the visitors can get an early goal, Portugal’s game plan changes and it should develop in to an entertaining match. Consequently, a 3-1 success for the four-time world champions is 20/1 in the latest football score predictions market.

One to Watch: Bernardo Silva

The Portuguese playmaker missed out on a place in Fernando Santos’ Euro 2016-winning squad but is now a permanent fixture in the Selecao setup. Silva first shot to fame in the Monaco side who spectacularly won Ligue 1 in the 2016-17 campaign, fighting off the Paris Saint-Germain juggernaut that included Edinson Cavani, Thiago Silva and a host of other world-class names. The 24-year-old sealed a move to Manchester City in the summer of 2017 and ,after a period of adaptation, is now showing his sublime ability. Silva has started two of the Blues’ first three matches and is earmarked to be the successor to his namesake David. The diminutive Lisbon native is 14/2 to strike anytime.

This Nations League preview opens with the hosts. Fernando Santos has recalled Ruben Neves after the Wolverhampton Wanderers star’s glaring omission from the World Cup group of 23. The former Porto skipper has started life superbly in the Premier League, bagging an opening-day stunner against Everton and playing a crucial role in holding champions Manchester City at Molineux.

Neves is not the only returning face, with fellow midfielder Renato Sanches eager to get his international career back on track after a turbulent 12 months on loan at relegated Swansea City. Rui Patricio, Cedric Soares and Bernardo Silva, three players who also ply their trade in England, can expect to be named in the starting XI when Italy visit Lisbon.

Roberto Mancini’s new look-Italy includes debutants Nicolo Zaniolo, Pietro Pellegri and Nicolo Barella. In a boost for the former Inter Coach, Juventus warrior Giorgio Chiellini reversed his decision to retire from international duty after the humiliating defeat to Sweden, and he can expect to line up alongside club partner Leonardo Bonucci at the heart of defence.

There is a strong Bianconeri and Milan contingent in the squad while Mario Balotelli, Lorenzo Insigne and Federico Chiesa should comprise the front three.

Portugal vs Italy Betting Tips, Preview & Predictions

Will Roberto Mancini finally bag a first competitive win as Italy CT?

Hosts Portugal bowed out at the last-16 stage of the World Cup in Russia following their 2-1 defeat to Uruguay. Fernando Santos failed to repeat his stunning exploits of two years ago, but the Seleaoo are a dependable presence in major tournaments and go into the Monday’s contest deservedly as favourites. Mancini’s revamped Italy drew 1-1 in their opening Nations League match against Poland and the former Sampdoria fan favourite has reason to be confident against a Cristiano Ronaldo-less Portugal as the world’s best player acclimatises to life in Turin.

Nations League predictions for this duel highlight Portugal at 5/4 to claim maximum points. Santos’ side won every match on home soil on the road to Russia, averaging a whopping four goals per game, and if the two Silvas find their rhythm, it could be a long 90 minutes for the Azzurri rearguard.

Further Nations League predictions show travelling party Italy at 12/5 to come away with the spoils. Mancini will be eager to ensure the Azzurri’s World Cup failure was a one-off, and a positive showing over the six meetings would be the ideal preparation for Euro 2020 qualifying.

The draw is 2/1 in the football betting predictions market and would be more favourable for Italy, given they are on the road. Portugal may have the slight edge on paper, but the squads are evenly matched and it could come down to which defence has the strongest resolve.

Highly-rated RB Leipzig winger Bruma is priced at 27/3 to open the scoring in this Nations League preview. The 23-year-old is electric and will fancy his chances up against Davide Zappacosta, with the Italian out of form and favour at Chelsea.

For Italy, Andrea Belotti is a popular choice in the last goalscorer market. The Torino talisman is deputy to Balotelli but can at least expect to feature in the closing stages. Belotti is 4/1 to net the final goal, while the both teams to score predictions offer is 21/20.

Predicted Score: Portugal 1 - 1 Italy
