Betting Tips & Predictions

Alexandre Lacazette’s form has slipped but with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang unavailable, he’s expected to play

It will be a special night for Swedish side Ostersunds as they welcome English giants Arsenal for the first leg of their Europa League last-32 contest. It is Ostersunds’ debut European campaign, and they are yet to face English opposition. Arsenal are the favourites to progress into the round of 16, but Ostersunds impressively pipped Zorya and Hertha BSC to a spot in the knockout stage of this season’s competition. Arsenal, meanwhile, breezed through their section to advance to this round.

Ostersunds are 7/1 to triumph as the Swedish side look to secure an advantage ahead of the return match in the English capital. Graham Potter’s team only lost one of their six Europa League group games, and are undefeated in their last six European encounters at home. Indeed, only Athletic Bilbao avoided defeat at the Ostersund Arena. Incredibly, Ostersunds also eliminated Turkish giants Galatasaray during the qualification phase before booking their spot in the round of 32 with one match to spare.

Arsenal are 1/2 as the Gunners look to secure a first-leg win. Arsene Wenger’s side are currently struggling to reach the top four in the Premier League, and might well see winning the Europa League as their best chance of securing Champions League football for the 2018-19 campaign. The capital club have won three of their previous four meetings with Swedish opposition, and were victorious in four of their six group matches to book their spot in the round of 32 in comfortable fashion.

The draw is 15/4, and when considering that Ostersunds have impressed at home this season, Arsenal might well settle for a first-leg stalemate. Two of the Swedish club’s last four Europa League matches have finished level, while Arsenal only won one of their final three group matches. It will be a famous night for the home side, and the special atmosphere could see the Swedes pick up a hard-fought draw.

Saman Ghoddos is 23/2 in the first goalscorer market on Thursday night, while the forward can be backed at 25/1 to score two or more times during the 90 minutes. Ghoddos managed two goals in six group-stage appearances, and has also been in excellent form in the Swedish Allsvenskan during the 2017-18 campaign.

Alexandre Lacazette is 19/5 in the first goalscorer market, while the Arsenal forward can be backed at 6/1 to score two or more goals. The Frenchman should lead the away side’s line due to the absence of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, and he will be looking to add to the nine goals that he has managed for the Gunners this season.

Match Summary

1

Look out for:

The first goalscorer market has plenty of value due to the uncertainty surrounding the team selection. Hector Bellerin can be backed as high as 40/1 for Arsenal, while Rob Holding is also at 40/1 for the away side.

2

We fancy:

Correct score of 2-0 Arsenal is available at 13/2. The Gunners are rightly the favourites to triumph on Thursday night, and it does appear likely that Wenger’s side will take an advantage into the second leg at the Emirates Stadium.

3

It’s a long shot, but:

Ostersunds to win 2-1 is available at 25/1. Arsenal have been poor away from home this season, and the Swedish outfit certainly have the qualities to pull off what would be the biggest win in the club’s history.
