Lyon vs CSKA Moscow Betting Tips, Preview & Predictions
In a sentence: Lyon hold a one-goal lead as they welcome CSKA Moscow to the host stadium of the Europa League final but it’d be the bravest of football predictions to back either of these two to be in the showpiece in a few months’ time.
Last time: Lyon won the away leg 1-0 thanks to a Marcelo second-half goal last week in Russia, but the first leg may not be an accurate Europa League preview of this return bout.
This time: Lyon are favourites for the win at 3/4, the draw is at 27/10 and CSKA are out at 23/5.
You might remember: Last season when Lyon made it to the semi-finals of the Europa League, only to be knocked out by Ajax. With the final at their own stadium this year, they will want to go all the way.
Olympique Lyonnais' Last Six:
Won: 3 Drawn: 2 Lost: 1
Star man Nabil Fekir is ruled out through injury but is the only absentee for Lyon here.
CSKA Moscow's Last Six:
Won: 3 Drawn: 1 Lost: 2
Viktor Vasin and Mario Fernandes are both side-lined for Thursday, whilst Vasili Berezutski returns after missing the first-leg.
Lyon welcome CSKA for their Europa League Round of 16 second-leg, holding a 1-0 lead on aggregate from last week’s game in Russia. At 3/4, the French side are heavy favourites to win the game and they will be confident of seeing off a CSKA side who have won five of their 10 matches in European competition this season.
Lyon sit 4th in the French Ligue 1, five points behind Marseille in third and the final Champions League place. The Europa League this season looks like being the most realistic chance they have of getting back into Europe’s elite competition, so will be focusing on this tournament.
As for CSKA, they are out at 23/5 for the win and considering there are 1-0 down from the first-leg, they will need to go for this at some point in the game, as they are struggling in their league for a Champions League place.
Elsewhere, everyone likes some free football betting tips and under 2.5 goals at 4/5 looks like a good value bet. Unders has resulted in five of CSKA’s last six and all six of Lyon’s last six games across all competitions. Lyon have not scored more than one goal in any of their last six games and given that stat, there could be some value in CSKA to get a result from the game or at least take it to extra-time.
Lyon to score under 1.5 goals at 5/6 could be a good way to go and could leave them in some trouble in this tie.
CSKA won four of their five away games in the Champions League this season, including qualifiers, and will know that they need just one goals to find a way back into the tie and force extra-time even though that outcome goes against most football predictions. They have lost just one of their last five games and have kept three clean sheets in their last four games, so can be a very difficult team to play.
In the football score predictions market, a 1-0 away win for CSKA could be a good outside bet here. They are not fancied to win the game but this score-line has occurred in seven of their combined last 12 games. Another free football betting tip for this game would be a CSKA 1-0 and you can find that at 12/1.
For a football prediction, under 2.5 goals at 4/5 looks good value considering that both theses sides have not been involved in high scoring games of late.
There’ll be many Europa League predictions for CSKA to win and under 2.5 goals in the match at 83/10. Lyon have struggled to score lately and CSKA will fancy their chances of knicking a goal and taking this game to extra-time.
It’s a long shot, but:
One of the least likely football predictions for today is the final score to finish 0-1 to CSKA at 12/1. They are underdogs for the game but is looks set to be a cagey affair but CSKA will fancy their chances and both teams were very even in the first leg.
