Motherwell vs St Johnstone Betting Tips, Preview & Predictions

In a sentence: Seventh plays eighth in the Scottish Premiership, when Motherwell host St Johnstone at Fir Park on Saturday.

Last time: Motherwell won 2-0 in February, thanks to second half goals from Allan Campbell and Curtis Main. Football predictions aren’t easy, but there could easily be a repeat on Saturday.

This time: Motherwell are 19/20 for the win, while St Johnstone are 13/4 and the draw is 13/5.

You might remember: A crazy game last August where St Johnstone won 4-1, and Motherwell had three players sent off.

Betting Tips & Predictions

Motherwell welcome St Johnstone to Fir Park on Saturday, as the Scottish Premiership season draws to a close

This is a Scottish Premiership preview where the result is tricky to call, as neither side has much to play for here. Football prediction can be aided by looking at the form guide, but as both sides have each only won one of their last six league games, it doesn’t make the picture any clearer. However, here are some football betting tips for the weekend, which will hopefully assist you in deciding where to place your bets.

Motherwell are 19/20 to win, and they won at home last weekend against Dundee. That was their first win at Fir Park in five games though, so there’s no guarantees they’ll prevail in this match.

St Johnstone are priced at 13/4. They have only won one of their last eight league matches on the road, and lost here in February. However, they did win their last three visits to Motherwell prior to that, so may be able to head home with the three points once again.

The draw is available at 13/5. These sides have both drawn nine times in the Scottish Premiership in 2017/18, and only three teams have done so more times. With only three points separating them in the table but little to play for, this could easily fizzle out into a stalemate.

Scottish Premiership predictions are rarely straightforward when Celtic aren’t involved, and this one is no exception. With Motherwell unbeaten in three and having home advantage, they should have enough to take the points here.

Predicted Score: Motherwell 2 - 0 St Johnstone

Match Summary

Look out for:

One team to draw a blank. Since the start of last season, only Hearts and Aberdeen have featured in fewer Scottish top flight matches where both sides found the net than St Johnstone have. A ‘no’ bet is priced at 5/6, and should be the choice in your both teams to score predictions.

We fancy:

Under 2.5 goals, at 18/25. Football predictions are aided by a little research, and Motherwell have only played in 14 league matches in 2017/18 that saw at least three goals. As Hearts are the only side to feature in fewer, don’t expect too many goals here.

It’s a long shot, but...

St Johnstone are 13/1 to win 2-1. Football score predictions are always tricky, but the Saints’ last three victories at Fir Park have all been by this scoreline, so perhaps they can make it four in a row.
