Malaga vs Villarreal Betting Tips, Preview & Predictions

In a sentence: La Liga’s bottom team host a Villarreal side looking to take a step closer to securing European football in 2018/19.

Last time: Villarreal won the last meeting in Malaga 2-0, thanks to first half goals from Jaume Costa and Nicola Sansone. Accurate football predictions are always tricky to pull off, but a similar scoreline could be on the cards here.

This time: Malaga are 5/2 to win with Villarreal at 5/4 and the draw 9/4.

You might remember: A 2-1 win for the home side in 2011, in which Jérémy Toulalan both scored the opener and was sent off. Isco, now of Real Madrid, scored the winner that day.

Betting Tips & Predictions

Malaga host Villarreal at La Rosaleda in the latest round of La Liga fixtures

This is a La Liga preview where the result looks fairly nailed on. Malaga have only won three league matches all season, while Villarreal go into the weekend fifth in the table. Any sensible football prediction for this match will suggest the visitors will be heading home with all three points.

Malaga are 5/2 to win, but they are currently on a 14-match run without a league victory. They have the worst home record in the division, and have scored just 10 goals in front of their own fans in 2017/18.

Villarreal are priced at 5/4 to win, and at that price your football betting tips for the weekend should not be without them. They have won four of their last seven games on the road in La Liga, and have the fifth best away record in the Spanish top flight.

The draw is available at 9/4. Both sides have drawn just five league matches this season, and only three sides in La Liga have drawn fewer. Based on the match-ups in Spain this weekend, as football predictions go this looks to be the least likely stalemate.

Youssef En-Nesyri is 17/2 to score the opener, or 18/5 to net at some point. In a Malaga team low on goals, he is the closest they have to someone being in form. The Moroccan has scored twice in his last nine appearances.

Carlos Bacca is the 37/19 favourite to score anytime, or 5/1 to break the deadlock. He is Villarreal’s joint-top La Liga scorer with nine goals this season, and bagged in their last away match at Las Palmas.

La Liga predictions are rarely straightforward, but this has to go down as an away win on your coupon.

Predicted Score: Malaga CF 0 - 2 Villarreal CF

Match Summary

Look out for:

The home side to draw a blank. Malaga have failed to score nine times at home this season, which is the most in La Liga. Both teams to score predictions are difficult, but a ‘no’ bet at 5/6 here looks sensible.

We fancy:

Villarreal to win to nil, at 12/5. Football predictions are aided by a little research, and as Villarreal have kept a clean sheet in five of their six away wins this season, this bet looks too good to refuse. The visitors have also won their last two visits to Malaga to nil.

It's a long shot, but:

Villarreal to win 3-0 is 22/1. Football score predictions are always hard to get right, but with Malaga struggling for goals and Villarreal decent on the road, this scoreline doesn’t feel too big a stretch at those odds.
