In a sentence: Leganes host Malaga in this weekend’s round of La Liga fixtures, with the visitors looking for points to climb off the foot off the table.

Last time: Leganes won 2-0 in Andalusia earlier this season, with Gabriel Appelt Pires and Alexander Szymanowski on target that day.

This time: Malaga look to be fighting a losing battle against relegation, and they are 3/1 to pull off an away victory. Leganes are evens to win and a draw is 11/5.

You might remember: Despite their lowly position, Malaga have some Premier League names in their squad, including former Arsenal youngster Ignasi Miguel, and Ideye Brown, Isaac Success and Borja Baston.

Leganes take on Malaga at Butarque in this weekend’s round of La Liga fixtures

Leganes have won plenty of fans this season as they have comfortably established a mid-table position, beating Athletic Bilbao, Villarreal and Real Sociedad so far in 2017-18.

Malaga, on the other hand, have had a disastrous campaign, with just three La Liga wins all season. They are rooted to the bottom of the table, seven points adrift of safety.

The home form of Leganes this season has been their most impressive achievement, losing just four games at Butarque – including losses to Barcelona and Real Madrid – although they did knock Real out of the Copa del Rey.

Although they are without a win in their last six games, they have made home territory a really difficult place for opposition sides, and with Malaga in a rut themselves, Leganes at evens to win looks a good option.

Asier Garitano’s side have not been thrilling this season, they have focused on results and being difficult to beat, picking up wins through narrow scorelines.

They have only scored more than two goals in a game twice this season, and after a patchy run Garitano will want to ensure his side go back to basics, having scored just once on their last six games.

An under 2.5 goals bet looks to be an almost certainty in this game, and is priced at 4/9.

Match Summary

1

Look out for:

Leganes have not wowed anyone with attacking football, but while their goals scored tally is the third lowest in La Liga, they are a tough nut to crack defensively.

Their main goal threat this season has been Pires, and he is the top scorer with five La Liga goals. The former Juventus youth team player is 4/6 to score first.

2

We fancy:

A low-scoring affair. This is not likely to be a great spectacle, with Malaga seemingly already relegated and Leganes the masters of pragmatism at home.

With no win in their last six games, after the hype of knocking Real Madrid out of the Copa del Rey, Leganes will want to get some momentum going before the end of the season. A routine 1-0 Leganes win is 5/1.

3

It’s a long shot, but:

Malaga to see red. The Albicelestes’ disciplinary record has been bad all season, with seven red cards handed out to them this season, including two in their last there games for Miguel and En-Nesyri.

Given their dire situation Malaga are growing more and more frustrated, and they are 3/1 to have another player sent off against Leganes.
