Leeds vs Barnsley Betting Tips, Preview & Predictions
In a sentence: Barnsley’s battle to remain in the Championship continues this weekend, when they travel to Yorkshire rivals Leeds United.
Last time: Samu Saiz and Ezgjan Alioski scored the goals as Leeds recorded a 2-0 victory in the reverse match at Oakwell.
This time: Leeds are 6/4 to collect all three points, with Barnsley at 2/1 and the draw available at 12/5.
You might remember: Barnsley thumped Leeds 5-2, when the two teams met at Oakwell during the 2010-11 campaign, before running out 4-1 winners when the pair locked horns in the same stadium a year later.
Leeds United's Last Six:
Won: 1 Drawn: 1 Lost: 4
Pontus Jansson could return to the Leeds team after missing out against Aston Villa, but fellow defender Liam Cooper is expected to remain on the sidelines.
Gaetano Berardi will once more miss out for the Whites through suspension, while key midfielder Adam Forshaw remains on the treatment table.
Barnsley's Last Six:
Won: 1 Drawn: 3 Lost: 2
Ethan Pinnock came off the bench in Barnsley’s 2-2 draw with Bolton Wanderers at the weekend and could be in line for a start in this match.
Swansea City loanee Ollie McBurnie will again lead the line as the 21-year-old looks to prolong his impressive run in front of goal, which will be discussed further in this Championship preview.
Bitter rivals Leeds and Barnsley will go head-to-head at Elland Road in the Championship on Saturday afternoon. Leeds recorded a 2-0 victory in the reverse fixture at Oakwell, while Barnsley have not actually beaten the Whites at Elland Road since November 2011. The hosts will enter the match off the back of a 1-0 defeat at Aston Villa, while their Yorkshire rivals scored late to draw 2-2 with Bolton Wanderers last time out as they continue to battle against relegation.
Leeds are priced at 6/4 as they look to end 2017-18 strongly. However, there’s no getting away from the fact that it has been a disappointing season for the Whites, who are currently 14th in the Championship table ahead of their final three matches against Barnsley, Norwich City and Queens Park Rangers. The former English champions have won just one of their last nine in the Championship and have already suffered seven home defeats this season. Boss Paul Heckingbottom desperately needs a positive result in order to ease some of the pressure.
Barnsley, on the other hand, are 2/1, with Jose Morais’ side hoping to pick up a win, which would be huge in their battle with the drop. As mentioned above in this Championship preview, the Tykes scored a 93rd-minute leveller against Bolton Wanderers at the weekend, which ensured the Trotters would not move clear. Barnsley are still in the relegation zone on 38 points but are just two points off 21st-placed Bolton, with a game in hand. Morais’ team have not won away from home in the Championship since the end of February, however, which is certainly worth considering when analysing the football score predictions.
The draw is available at 12/5, which seems a fair price when considering the best football betting tips. Barnsley have actually drawn three of their last six Championship matches, while Leeds’ last home game was a 1-1 draw with Sunderland on March 7. That said, just one of the last nine meetings between these two bitter rivals have finished level, which is important to consider when reviewing the football predictionsmarket.
Pierre-Michel Lasogga is at 9/2 in the first goalscorer market, while the German is available at 7/4 in the anytime goalscorer market. Lasogga has 10 Championship goals to his name this season and could be in line for a start after appearing as a late substitute in Leeds’ defeat to Villa.
Ollie McBurnie, meanwhile, is 27/5 in the first goalscorer market, while the Scot is available at 21/10 to net at any point during the 90 minutes. The 21-year-old has seven goals in 12 Championship appearances for Barnsley, and will fancy his chances of causing Leeds’ defence some problems in this match.
Predicted Score: Leeds United 2 - 2 Barnsley
Look out for:
Goals. Leeds have conceded 13 times in their last four home Championship defeats, while Barnsley have not exactly been goal-shy in recent weeks. Over 3.5 goals is available at a very healthy 5/2 as part of the best football betting tips for the weekend, while over 4.5 goals is at 6/1.
Today’s football predictionis the 2-2 draw at 14/1. Leeds have already drawn six home Championship matches this season, while Barnsley have shared the points on five occasions on their travels. We fancy the visitors to fight for what would be a very welcome point at Elland Road.
It’s a long shot, but...
Barnsley’s last win against Leeds was a 3-2 success at Oakwell in the previous campaign. The same scoreline in this match can be backed as high as 30/1 – something worth taking into account when analysing the Championship predictionsmarket.
