In a sentence: Hull City host Barnsley on Tuesday night in a real relegation dogfight, which neither side can really afford to lose.

Last time: The Tigers have already beaten Barnsley once this season, winning 1-0 at Oakwell back in October, thanks to Frazier Campbell’s late strike.

This time: The home side are strong favourites to win this one, priced at 19/20, with a Barnsley win at 10/3, and a draw at 5/2.

Hull City play Barnsley at the KCOM Stadium in this Championship clash

Both sides are facing the very real prospect of relegation this season, with Hull City a point outside the drop zone in 20th place and Barnsley facing the drop in 21st, with a point less.

Victories for both teams at the weekend will have boosted confidence, with Hull’s win at home to Sheffield United their second in their last three Championship games, while Barnsley’s victory at St Andrew’s ended a six game league stretch of no wins.

Nigel Adkins’ Hull do appear to be steadying themselves as they look to battle against the drop, with January signings Harry Wilson and Angus MacDonald – from Barnsley – having a positive effect already.

Home advantage and a greater forward threat should allow Hull to have enough to secure all three points in this game, with the likes of Campbell, Grosicki and top scorer Jarrod Bowen all in good form – and a home win is at 19/20.

Whilst Hull do have a decent strike force, they have not been high scorers in recent weeks, with the Tigers only scoring two or more goals twice in their last 11 games in all competitions.

With that in mind, and the fact that Hull will only be concerned with three points at this stage of the season, an under 2.5 goals bet is priced at an interesting 4/5.

Match Summary

Look out for:

Bowen has been the main man for Hull this season, and he is their top scorer with 12 goals in 28 Championship starts in 2017-18.

He has pace and is a real direct goal threat, and he is at 6/1 to be the first goalscorer on Tuesday night.

We fancy:

With so much at stake, and both managers mindful and cautious about the looming threat of relegation to the third tier, this is unlikely to be an open game.

The home fans will be looking to drive Hull on and open up a game between their side and the relegation zone, so a tight 1-0 win at 11/2 looks to be a good option.

It’s a long shot, but:

Campbell was the late hero the last time these two sides met, although his season has not gone to plan since.

He has only scored twice since then, and has no goals in 2018, but given the injury problems that Adkins is having to deal with he could be recalled to the side.

A goal would be a huge boost for the former Manchester United youngster, and would help move Hull in the right direction, he is 5/1 to score first against Barnsley.
