In a sentence: Huddersfield Town and Stoke City meet for the first time in the Premier League at the King Power Stadium on December 26.

Last time: These two teams have not locked horns since a Second Division match in December 2001. It was a drab goalless draw at Huddersfield’s ground, which was then called the McAlpine Stadium.

This time: Huddersfield are 8/5 to win it with Stoke available at 9/5 and the draw at 9/4.

You might remember: Stoke’s last win over Huddersfield came back in September 1996, with the First Division match – which finished 1-0 to the Potters – taking place in front of just over 9,000 supporters.

Betting Tips & Predictions

Stoke City’s Peter Crouch during the Premier League match at Wembley Stadium, London.

Huddersfield will look to stretch their unbeaten record against Stoke to six matches when the two teams meet at the John Smith’s Stadium on Boxing Day. The Terriers have not lost to Stoke since September 1996 – winning three of their last five meetings. However, the clash on December 26 will bring the first ever Premier League meeting between the two teams.

Huddersfield are 8/5 to win it as they go in search of their fifth home Premier League victory of the season. Wagner’s side have only lost three of their nine home league fixtures this term, and have already beaten Manchester United at the John Smith’s Stadium during the 2017-18 campaign. Runaway leaders Manchester City also found Huddersfield difficult to overcome on their own patch.

Stoke are 9/5 to emerge victorious on Boxing Day. The Potters have the worst away record in this season’s Premier League having won just one of their nine fixtures on the road. They have also conceded more away goals than any other team, which is a damning statistic ahead of their visit to Huddersfield.

The draw is 9/4, and it is worth noting that each of the last two league fixtures between these two teams have finished level – including a goalless draw in their last meeting in December 2001. That said, Huddersfield and Stoke have had relatively few Premier League draws between them in the opening 19 matches of the 2017-18 campaign.

Steve Mounie is 5/1 in the first goalscorer market for the home side, while the club’s record signing can be backed at 23/10 to find the back of the net at any point during the 90 minutes. The striker could cause Stoke a lot of problems.

Peter Crouch is 11/4 in the anytime goalscorer market. The former England international can also be backed at 18/1 to score two or more goals against Huddersfield. Whether Stoke triumph against the Terriers could well depend on Crouch’s performance in the final third of the field.

Match Summary

Look out for:

Huddersfield/Huddersfield in the Half-time/Full-time market is available at 7/2, which is brilliant value when considering that the Terriers have only lost to Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea and Man City at the John Smith’s Stadium this season. Stoke could well be in for a tough afternoon.

We fancy:

Huddersfield to win 2-1 against Stoke is available at 10/1. The home side will enter the match in the better form, but it should be a close affair. Another defeat for the Potters would increase the pressure on head coach Hughes.

It’s a long shot, but:

Huddersfield are available at 80/1 to win 4-1. Wagner’s side recorded a 4-1 victory over Watford in the Premier League on December 16, and they have been strong on home soil this season. Stoke, on the other hand, have a rotten record on their travels.
