Steve Robinson is without a number of key players, with Ryan Bowman yet to return from injury, alongside Ellis Plummer and Elliot Frear. Bowman’s absence could not have come at a worse time, coinciding with fellow forward Lewis Moult’s sale to Preston Northend.
Betting Tips & Predictions
Hibernian have won just once in their past five games in all competitions, and Lennon will want to rediscover his sides’ ruthless streak on Wednesday. Their opponents, Motherwell have been on similarly lacking form, and the sides have typically produced evenly matched games.
Hibernian are 8/11 to come out on top, having won the reverse fixture, away, and with league standing in their favour. They have suffered recently due to a poor goal return from forward Simon Murray, who has failed to score in eight matches, and with Anthony Stokes frozen out, new signing Jamie Maclaren will have an important role to play in the following six months.
Motherwell are 4/1 to win, and will see their opponents poor form as an opportunity to pick up a valuable three points. Stuck in the middle of the table, Robinson’s side will be pushing for top six, with Kilmarnock and St Johnstone within touching distance, and both with a game in hand.
A draw is 13/5, and given the two sides’ poor attacking form, this may be a good option. In the past five league meetings between these sides, there have been two draws, and the remaining three games were won by just one goal.
Jamie Maclaren is 7/4 to score his first goal for the club on Wednesday. A loan signing from the Bunesliga II, the Australian forward failed to score for Darmstadt, and will be looking for a better start with his new club.
Curtis Main is 15/4 to score anytime against Hibs, having notched in both of his last two games. With Motherwell short on strikers a the moment, Main could use this opportunity to stake his claim for a starting slot on a regular basis.
Predicted Score: Hibernian 1 - 0 Motherwell
Look out for:
Craig Tanner. The English midfielder will be Motherwell’s highest scoring player on the pitch on Wednesday, with three strikes in his last seven matches.
Tanner is 14/1 to score first.
Hibernian to win a tight game with less than 1.5 goals scored at 5/1. Neither side is exactly thriving up front at the moment and are relatively evenly matched in terms of form. The home advantage should give Hibs the edge on the day.
It’s a long shot, but:
A two all draw at 25/1. This was the result the last time the fixture was played, although it would be a surprise this season!
