Hibernian vs Heart of Midlothian Betting Tips, Preview & Predictions
In a sentence: Fourth-placed Hibernian will host fifth-placed Hearts in the Scottish Premiership on Friday night, with both teams desperate for all three points.
Last time: Hearts recorded a 1-0 win when the pair met at Tynecastle Park in the Scottish Cup on January 21, with Don Cowie scoring the only goal of the match in the 87th minute.
This time: Hibernian are available at 5/6 with Hearts at 17/4 and the draw at 12/5.
You might remember: This spicy Edinburgh derby produced two red cards during their Scottish Championship clash in August 2014. Hibernian missed a first-half penalty before Hearts went on to record a 2-1 win on home soil.
Hibernian's Last Six:
Won: 4 Drawn: 1 Lost: 1
Hibernian have not been in action since a 2-2 draw at Kilmarnock on February 24, and head coach Neil Lennon has no fresh injury concerns from that match.
Florian Kamberi will again lead the line with support from Jamie MacLaren.
Hearts' Last Six:
Won: 2 Drawn: 2 Lost: 2
Hearts boss Craig Levein is expected to make a couple of changes from the team that lost 2-1 at Motherwell in the Scottish Cup on Sunday afternoon.
That said, Kyle Lafferty should again lead the line with support from Steven Naismith. Don Cowie, who netted against Hibernian in January, could return in a midfield position for the visitors.
Betting Tips & Predictions
The latest instalment of the Edinburgh derby between Hibernian and Hearts will take place at Easter Road on Friday night. Hibernian recorded a 1-0 win when they welcomed Hearts in the Scottish Premiership earlier this season, but the points were shared at Hearts in the latter stages of 2017, before Craig Levein’s side recorded a 1-0 victory in their Scottish Cup clash in January 2018. Hibernian will enter the match in fourth position in the table – nine points clear of fifth-placed Hearts, who have drawn 12 of their 29 league matches during the 2017-18 campaign.
Hibernian are 5/6 to collect all three points on Friday night. Neil Lennon’s team have won six, drawn three and lost four of their 13 home Scottish Premiership matches this season, and will be looking for all the points to close the gap on the top three. Indeed, Aberdeen currently sit four points clear of fourth-placed Hibernian, but there is still plenty of time for Hibs to move into the top three. Lennon’s side have not actually lost in the Scottish Premiership since leaders Celtic beat them at the end of January, which is an unbeaten run stretching back four matches.
Hearts are available at 17/4 as Levein’s team look for their fifth away Scottish Premiership victory of the season. Nine wins, 12 draws and eight defeats have brought Hearts 39 points this term, but despite sitting fifth, they are nine points off their opponents this Friday night. The Jam Tarts are also without a victory in their last three league fixtures – drawing with Ross County and Kilmarnock, and losing to Rangers since a 1-0 success at home to St. Johnstone towards the start of last month. They will also enter the match off the back of a 2-1 defeat to Motherwell in the quarter-finals of the Scottish Cup on Sunday afternoon.
The draw is 13/5, but it is worth noting that there has been just one league draw between these two teams since January 2015. That said, Hearts have already drawn five times on their travels in the Scottish Premiership this season, and no team has drawn more league fixtures in Scotland’s top flight than Levein’s side during the 2017-18 campaign. However, just three of Hibernian’s 13 home league matches have ended with a share of the spoils.
Florian Kamberi is 5/1 in the first goalscorer market for Hibernian, while the forward can be backed at 2/1 to score at any point during the 90 minutes of action. Kamberi has scored three times in four Scottish Premiership matches following his January arrival, and there is no question that Hearts will be wary of the 22-year-old on Friday night.
Kyle Lafferty is 15/2 in the first goalscorer market on Friday night, while the Hearts striker is at 16/1 to score two or more goals during the match. The 30-year-old has 16 goals in 32 appearances in all competitions this season – including nine in 26 Scottish Premiership fixtures. Hearts will be looking to the 30-year-old for inspiration in this match.
Predicted Score: Hibernian 2 - 1 Hearts
Look out for:
Hibernian have scored 20 but conceded 17 times on home soil in the Scottish Premiership this season, while Hearts have shipped 18 on their travels. Over 4.5 goals in this match can be backed as high as 17/2, while over 3.5 is available at 18/5.
Correct score of 2-1 Hibernian is available at 17/2. There is not an awful lot between these two teams, but we fancy the home side to record a narrow win.
It’s a long shot, but:
Hearts’ last away win in the Scottish Premiership was a 3-0 success at Hamilton Academical on January 24. It is 90/1 that the same scoreline occurs in this particular match.
