In a sentence: Struggling Hamilton Academical have a couple of games in hand over the two teams above them, and there’s hope for the Accies after they beat Rangers a few months ago.

Last time: David Templeton opened the scoring for Hamilton just after half time when the teams met at Ibrox in November. Rangers couldn’t find a response, and Darren Lyon sealed the points for the visitors with 10 minutes left.

This time: Hamilton are 33/5 for the victory, while Rangers are 1/2 and the draw is 19/5.

You might remember: Daniel Redmond putting the Accies ahead in the first minute of the first game of the season between these two at New Douglas Park. The lead didn’t last for long though, with a Declan John brace putting Rangers ahead before a Daniel Candeias strike and Graham Dorrans penalty sealed a 4-1 win for the visitors.

Hamilton Academical welcome Rangers to New Douglas Park for this Scottish Premiership encounter

This is a big game for both of these sides. Hamilton are attempting to beat the drop and avoid a relegation play-off, and need to get back to winning ways. Rangers meanwhile are three points behind second placed Aberdeen in the Scottish Premiership table.

Hamilton are 33/5 to pick up a valuable three points. It’s not been a very happy new year at all for the Accies, who have lost all four of their fixtures since the winter break. They’ve had an extra week to prepare for this game though after getting knocked out of the Scottish Cup, so the additional time on the training pitch could bear fruit on Sunday.

Rangers are 1/2 favourites to exact some revenge for their defeat at Ibrox in November. Graeme Murty’s side have won five of their six games since the winter break, so even though there’s a few extra miles in their legs, they should be full of confidence despite losing at home to Hibernian a few weeks ago. Putting six past Ayr United in the cup last weekend won’t do any harm on that front.

The draw is 19/5 and would be a better point for the home team in the grand scheme of things. Rangers can’t afford to lose much more ground on the second placed Dons, while it’d be a point gained for the Accies against a top three side. The only draw in the six games between the teams since the Gers returned to the top flight was in August 2016, and a repeat of that 1-1 scoreline is priced at 8/1.

Alfredo Morelos is the 4/1 favourite to open the scoring in this game, with the Rangers forward looking to add to his tally of 15 goals for the season. The two players who have put Hamilton into the lead against the Gers this season, Templeton and Redmond, are 17/1 and 20/1 respectively to repeat the trick in this game.

Match Summary

1

Look out for:

Goals. Before losing at home to Hamilton a few months back, Rangers had won their last three against Canning’s side, scoring 14 goals in the process with just one in reply. An over 4.5 goals bet is priced at 5/1.

2

We fancy:

Rangers to win and both teams to score at 12/5. The Gers defence has conceded just over a goal a game so far this campaign, while even third tier side Ayr managed to score first against Murty’s men last weekend.

3

It’s a long shot, but:

Hamilton to beat Rangers 2-0 again is priced at 52/1. While it might not be the likeliest result, the extra week of preparation could pay dividends for the Accies, who will also enjoy home advantage.
