In a sentence: Romanian heavyweights FCSB – previously known as Steaua Bucharest – host Serie A’s Lazio in the Europa League Round of 32 first leg.

Last time: This will be the first-ever meeting of the clubs.

This time: FCSB are available at 7/2 to win, with Lazio 4/5 and the draw 5/2.

You might remember: FCSB’s greatest-ever European occasion, winning the European Cup in 1986. They beat Barcelona on penalties and reached the 1989 final, where they lost to AC Milan.

Betting Tips & Predictions

FCSB have suffered some disappointing results in recent fixtures at the National Arena

Lazio are among the contenders to win the Europa League outright this season but FCSB could be a banana skin. Lazio aren’t the famous side of the early 2000s anymore and it wouldn’t be the biggest surprise of the Europa League 2017-18 to see FCSB dump out the Aquile.

FCSB are 7/2 to win on the night and three games unbeaten at home should give Nicolae Dica’s side some confidence, though the National Arena hasn’t been the fortress that might be expected in recent weeks.

Lazio are 4/5 but now haven’t won since January 24, four games ago – and three of those have been defeats. The smashing by Napoli was probably the worst of the lot and saw Inzaghi lose his cool with star player Sergej Milinkovic-Savic after he was sent off.

The draw is 5/2 and Lazio might take that outcome now if offered, considering their rotten form and the dissension between Inzaghi, Anderson and Milinkovic-Savic. It would at least allow the Rome club to regroup ahead of the second leg.

Harlem Gnohere is 17/2 to score the game’s first goal and the French striker has 12 in 20 appearances so far this season, marking him out as the hosts’ danger man.

Ciro Immobile is 19/5 to get the game’s first goal and he is always a threat in front of goal, but needs supply that, if Milinkovic-Savic or Anderson aren’t mentally straight, could be lacking.

Match Summary

Look out for:

FCSB to score first at 7/4. Lazio go to Bucharest in rough shape and the home side scoring the opening goal would compound matters.

We fancy:

The match to be a draw and under 2.5 goals at 7/2. Lazio have been well off the pace lately so it’s hard to see them winning, but they should be able to stay in the tie.

It’s a long shot, but:

FCSB/draw half time/full time at 17/1. Lazio have extra quality but after their recent results it might need some time to come through – maybe the first 45 minutes.
