In a sentence: A battle for mid-table supremacy in Catalonia as Espanyol welcome Real Sociedad to the RCDE Stadium.

Last time: It was a 1-1 draw in the season’s first meeting between these sides. Away side Espanyol took the lead inside 10 minutes only for Sociedad to respond through Asier Illarramendi. The Spanish midfield player was then sent-off late on for his side.

This time: Espanyol are 9/5 for the win with Real Sociedad at 17/10 and the draw is 21/10.

You might remember: A La Liga fixture in February 2016 saw La Real crush their hosts 5-0. Jonathas scored in the game’s opening minutes and completed the rout late on as Real Sociedad recorded an impressive away win.

Betting Tips & Predictions

Espanyol have only lost one of their last five home games

Despite sitting 15th in the table, Espanyol will be looking up to the league’s top half rather than concerning themselves with the relegation places. There are only three places between Espanyol and the drop zone but such is the competitiveness of La Liga’s middle section, Los Periquitos are closer points wise to Villarreal in 6th than they are Las Palmas in 18th.

Five draws in their last six games has prevented the Barcelona-based side from climbing the table. Their last home game see them claim a huge scalp when beating the mighty Real Madrid 1-0, they are 9/5 for consecutive home wins.

It’s a similar story for visitors Real Sociedad, they are one point above their hosts in the table and will be equally aware that stringing a couple of wins together would propel them up the table.

Without a  win on the road in La Liga since October, La Real will be searching for just their fourth away win all season. Off the back of a confidence boosting 2-1 home win last weekend they are 17/10 for another three points on Sunday.

Espanyol’s Gerard Moreno and Real Sociedad Willian Jose are their team’s top scorers in the league with 11 strikes each. They are both 5/1 to score the opener.

Match Summary

1

Look out for:

The 1-1 draw at 9/2. These sides enjoy scoring single goals in a game. Espanyol have not bagged more than once in each of their last eight home games across all competitions. The visitors have also registered just a single goal in four of their last five away games.

2

We fancy:

Two of the last three meetings between these two sides have seen fewer than three goals – The draw and under 2.5 goals is 11/4. Espanyol have also drawn 11 games in La Liga this season, the second highest in the Spanish top flight.

3

It’s a long shot, but:

Real Sociedad do have a good record in recent years at the RCDE Stadium and have lost only once in their last six visits. On five of those occasions they have managed two or more goals – it is 10/3 for them to win over 2.5 goals.
