Espanyol vs Alaves Betting Tips, Preview & Predictions

In a sentence: Four points separate the sides as Espanyol host Alaves for this weekend’s La Liga preview.

Last time: Contrary to the weekend football predictions, Alaves won when the two met last, back in November. A classy performance from goalkeeper Fernando Pacheco, a red card for Mario Hermoso and Christian Santos’ goal after just 45 seconds won the game for Abelardo Fernandez’s side.

This time: Espanyol are 11/10 to win, Alaves are 3/1 and a draw is 21/10.

You might remember: A 1-1 draw between the sides in 2005 in Alaves single season in La Liga in what was otherwise a thirteen-year absence. Josu Sarriego took the lead for the underdogs, going against all La Liga predictions, before Luis Garcia equalised, in Pablo Zabaleta’s first season with Espanyol.

Betting Tips & Predictions

Espanyol won their last home game, against Real Sociedad

Having just lost their first game since January, Quique Sanches Flores will be looking for his team to bounce back. Alaves are without a win in three, and the majority of football score predictions see Espanyol doing just that.

Espanyol are 11/10 to win, having not lost at home in 10 games. Flores is, however, without his two first choice strikers, with no available player having scored more than once in the league this season.

Alaves are 3/1 to win, and with their attack far stronger than their defence, will look to get at Espanyol. Fernandez’s side’s last two wins have come against opposition lower than them in the league, but they have beaten the likes of Sevilla and Villareal this season.

A draw is 21/10 and might be one of the key football betting tips for the weekend. Although Alaves have gone 10 games without a draw, Espanyol have five from their last eight games. With Moreno out and Baptistao possibly joining him, Flores’ side may have a tough time scoring.

Sergio Garcia is 7/4 to score anytime on Sunday, having played up front before this season in the absence of a proper striker. The midfielder has just one league goal, but is a creative player, as evidenced by his four assists in nine starts.

Munir is 9/4 to score against Espanyol, and his pace will be a vital outlet for the away side. The Barcelona loanee has six goals to his name, not to mention five assists, making him Fernandez’s most productive player and one of the match’s better football predictions to score.

Predicted Score: RCD Espanyol 0 - 0 Deportivo Alaves

Match Summary

Look out for:

Ibai Gomez. The left-winger has contributed to 10 goals for his side this season, but has gone six games without scoring. With a fierce right foot, the Spaniard offers a threat from outside the box and at set pieces. Gomez is 5/1 to score on Sunday.

We fancy:

A scoreless draw at 6/1. Despite football betting tips for the weekend pushing Espanyol as favorites, neither side offers much going forwards.

It’s a long shot, but:

Pablo Piatti to score first at 9/1. The Argentinian winger has played as a forward before and, despite his short stature, may be asked to do so again on Sunday, which is worth keeping in mind for the football bet tips and predictions.
