Match Summary

3 It's a long shot, but…

Harry Maguire is a real threat from set-pieces, and opened the scoring for England against Sweden in the World Cup quarter-finals. The defender expanded his repertoire to 25-yard strikes for Leicester against Southampton recently, and is 20/1 with Paddy Power to score first.

One to Watch: Harry Kane

Three Lions captain Harry Kane won the Golden Boot at the World Cup, hitting six goals in England’s run to the semi-finals. The Tottenham striker broke his August duck in the Premier League last month, and has two goals in four games so far this term, including the opener in the victory over Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Kane broke the deadlock for England twice in Russia, and hit a hat-trick against Panama. That included two fine penalties, and the Spurs striker is the indisputable main man from the spot for Gareth Southgate’s side. He is 16/5 with Paddy Power to open the scoring in your football predictions for this game.

Gareth Southgate has informed veterans Jamie Vardy, Gary Cahill and Ashley Young that they won’t be central to his plans going forward. Luke Shaw, Adam Lallana, Joe Gomez and James Tarkowski have been handed call-ups for this game, bringing down the average age of the squad. Raheem Sterling won’t be involved though, as he’s pulled out with a back injury.

The big news from Luis Enrique’s first squad announcement is that Jordi Alba and Koke have been left out. They’re both surprise omissions, while Gerard Pique, David Silva and Andres Iniesta have all retired from international football in the wake of the World Cup.

England vs Spain Betting Tips, Preview & Predictions

Gareth Southgate led England to the World Cup semi-finals and is looking to continue the momentum against Spain

The UEFA Nations League gets underway this week, and this game is a tasty way to kick things off for England. Gareth Southgate’s side are looking to build on a hugely positive World Cup campaign, while Spain have a huge rebuilding job on their hands.

England are 17/10 in your Nations League predictions, after the Three Lions reached the semi-finals of Russia 2018. There’s a renewed optimism around the national team, which we’ve not seen for many years. The building continues in terms of personnel, but the manager’s philosophy remains the same as Southgate instils his brand of passing, attacking football. A win against a real European heavyweight would do wonders for England going forward.

Spain are 9/5 for the win, so the teams are evenly matched in your football betting tips for the weekend. La Roja’s experience at Russia 2018 was completely different to their opponents on Saturday, with their build-up thrown into turmoil following Julen Lopetegui’s appointment at Real Madrid and subsequent sacking by the Spanish FA. Enrique has some gifted players at his disposal, but his squad has lost some serious experience, as well as Silva and Iniesta’s guile.

The stalemate is 11/5, after the teams shared a 2-2 draw the last time they met. Spain scored twice in the closing stages of the game when they met at Wembley in 2016, but this England team has grown a lot since then. Regardless, it’s hard to see this game ending goalless, with a score draw priced at 18/5 in the football predictions for this game.

Kane is the 7/2 favourite for the first goal, while his opposite number up front, Diego Costa, is 5/1 in the same market. The former Chelsea striker scored twice for Atletico Madrid against local rivals Real in the UEFA Super Cup last month, but he hasn’t netted in three appearances since. He’ll lead the line for Spain though, and will be as brash and combative as ever on his return to English shores. Costa is 19/10 to score anytime.

Predicted Score: England 2 - 2 Spain
