England vs Italy Betting Tips, Preview & Predictions

In a sentence: Two European giants clash at Wembley, but only one of them is off to the World Cup in the summer.

Last time: England won the last meeting on their turf 2-1 in 2012. After De Rossi gave the visitors the lead, goals from Jagielka and Defoe saw England home. Football predictions are tough, but the form book suggests there will be fewer goals this time around.

This time: England are 11/10 to win with Italy at 16/5 and the draw 12/5.

You might remember: Italy winning a World Cup qualifier at Wembley 1-0 in 1997, thanks to a Gianfranco Zola goal. England had the last laugh though, by drawing the return fixture to qualify automatically for the finals.

Betting Tips & Predictions

Gareth Southgate gets another look at his England side on Tuesday

Football betting tips for the weekend can wait, as there’s always the chance of money to be made in midweek. Football prediction is a tough business, but this looks set to be a low scoring affair.

England are 11/10 to win. The Three Lions are unbeaten in 2017/18, and have only conceded one goal in their seven matches this season and this international friendly preview of England at the World Cup suggests they will be defensively sound, if nothing else.

Italy are priced at 16/5, but are not in good form as they face up to a period of rebuilding after failing to qualify for the World Cup. They have only scored one goal in their last four matches, and have won none of the last three.

The draw is available at 12/5, and could definitely be the way to go. England’s last four matches have seen a total of just two goals, and Italy’s haven’t been much more thrilling with four. This might fizzle out in to a disappointing stalemate.

Vardy is the 19/4 favourite to open the scoring, or 6/4 to get on the score sheet at some point. The Leicester hit man hasn’t scored for his country yet this season, but is expected to lead the line and will be on penalty duty, so he is probably Gareth Southgate’s main hope of a goal.

Ciro Immobile is 3/1 to bag a goal, or 13/2 for it to be the opener. He hasn’t scored an international goal in 2017-18 either, but he proved his worth at this level with six between May 2016 and May 2017.

International friendly predictions are never simple, but it would be a shock if this wasn’t a dour match with few goals. That said, a score draw is a definite possibility to consider in both teams to score predictions.

Predicted Score: England 1 - 1 Italy

Match Summary

1

Look out for:

Both teams to score, at 28/25. Football predictions are always aided by a little research, and both sides have found the net in their last three meetings, and also the last two to take place in England as this one does.

2

We fancy:

Under 2.5 goals, at 4/7. This has been the outcome in England’s last five matches, and Italy’s last six. With Harry Kane out and Gareth Southgate looking to build from the back, there won’t be many goals here.

3

It's a long shot, but:

Italy to win 2-0, at 20/1. Football score predictions are tricky to get right, but the masters of defence might easily keep a clean sheet against England. If they can get ahead, they may get a second goal on the counter to wrap the match up.
