Home Derby County

    21/04/2018 Kick Off:  3:00 pm Pride Park V Predicted Score:1 - 0

    Away Middlesbrough

      Match Summary

      1 Look out for:

One team to fire blanks. Derby have kept the joint-second most clean sheets in the Championship this term, whereas Middlesbrough are ranked joint-sixth. A ‘no’ bet is available at 4/5 and should be included in your both teams to score predictions.

      2 We fancy:

Under 2.5 goals at 4/6. Football predictions are aided by a dose of research, and only six teams in the division have seen fewer total goals in their matches this season than these two have.

      3 It's a long shot, but…

Middlesbrough to win 2-0 at 14/1. Football score predictions are always difficult, but Boro have kept a clean sheet in four of their seven away wins this season, and few Championship teams have scored more on the road than they have.

      Team News

      Derby County's Last Six:

        Won: 2 Drawn: 1 Lost: 3

Derby look likely to be without Bradley Johnson, Marcus Olsson, George Thorne and Sam Winnall for this vital clash.

        Middlesbrough's Last Six:

          Won: 2 Drawn: 2 Lost: 2

Grant Leadbitter missed the win against Bristol City due to suspension but will return here. Rudy Gestede is Tony Pulis’ only injury absentee.

Derby County vs Middlesbrough Betting Tips, Preview & Predictions

Is Matej Vydra the difference between a draw and victory for Derby?

This is a Championship preview where the result is tricky to call. Football prediction can be aided by looking at recent results, but both sides have displayed fairly average form recently, with two wins in their last six league games. Here are some football betting tips for the weekend, which will hopefully help you decide where to place your money.

Derby are 8/5 to win. However, they have only won once in their last five Championship matches at Pride Park. They do have the fifth best home goal difference in the division, though, so they definitely have the potential to win.

Middlesbrough can be backed at 13/8, but they have only won one of their last seven league games on the road. However, only two Championship teams have scored more away goals in 2017/18, so a victory for the visitors can’t be ruled out.

The draw is priced at 9/4. Only three teams have drawn more second-tier games than Derby have this season, and with the teams so closely matched in the table, a tight contest seems a certainty.

Matej Vydra is the Championship’s top scorer for both all goals and openers, and the Czech attacker also netted a hat-trick when these sides met earlier this season. He is available at 22/5 to open the scoring or 37/19 to find the net at any time.

Britt Assombalonga is 28/13 to bag a goal or 24/5 to break the deadlock with the opener. His record this season suggests the former bet may be the wise choice as despite scoring 13 Championship goals in 2017/18, only three have been the first of a game.

Championship predictions are rarely simple, and this one is no exception. Nonetheless, it should be a low-scoring match so Derby may just sneak it thanks to their home advantage.

Predicted Score: Derby County 1 - 0 Middlesbrough
