In a sentence: Brentford are still in with a shout of making the Championship play-offs, but taking on Derby at Pride Park could prove a bridge too far.

Last time: Joe Ledley opened the scoring for Derby early on when the teams met at Griffin Park in September, before Ollie Watkins rescued a point for the hosts just a few minutes from time.

This time: Derby are 6/5 for the win, while Brentford are 5/2 and the draw is 28/11.

You might remember: After going behind to a Chris Martin strike, Andre Gray equalised for the Bees early in the second half when the teams met in November 2014. The stage was set for Stuart Dallas to snatch a 94th minute winner, which was some way for Brentford to exact revenge on a 5-0 League Cup defeat the season before.

Betting Tips & Predictions

Derby County haven’t lost a home game since late November, winning three and drawing two of their last five

Despite looking nailed on for automatic promotion just a few weeks ago, a recent downturn in performances has seen Derby reigned in by the chasing pack. Brentford’s loss at home against the Canaries meanwhile was a real blow to their promotion hopes.

Derby are 6/5 to pick up a much-needed victory, with third placed Aston Villa now just a single point behind them in the Championship table. Wolves have stretched their lead at the top to 11 points, so thoughts of getting promoted to the Premier League as champions have been shelved for now. The Rams need to get their heads down and shore up their second spot.

Brentford are 5/2 to give themselves a timely boost and take the spoils back down the M1. Saturday’s game at Griffin Park was a real opportunity missed, as a win would’ve taken Smith’s side to within two points of the play-off places. The Bees need to pick themselves up for this one, and will be looking to the likes of Watkins, Neal Maupay and Lasse Vibe to get them in the groove.

The draw is 28/11, with three of the last six games between the teams ending in a stalemate. Two of those matches ended with a 1-1 scoreline, and the bookmakers have this as the most likely result at 6/1.

Matej Vydra is the joint top scorer in the Championship with 15 goals, and he’s the 9/2 favourite to break the deadlock on Saturday. He’s 10/7 to score anytime, while new signing Cameron Jerome is 9/5 for the same bet.

For the visitors, Vibe is 13/2 to open the scoring, while Maupay is 15/2 and Watkins is 8/1. With plenty of players on show capable of hitting the target, a both teams to score bet at 14/19 looks like a decent proposition.

Match Summary

Look out for:

A close affair. This is the fourth season the teams have been competing in the Championship together. Both sides have won two games, with the other three ending in draws. With not much separating the teams, a one goal winning margin bet is priced at 11/8.

We fancy:

Derby to win and both teams to score at 10/3. Both sides average around 1.5 goals per game this season, but Derby’s stronger defence and home advantage should see them pick up the points.

It’s a long shot, but:

Vydra to score first and Derby to win 2-1 at 35/1. The Czech striker has been in superb goalscoring form this term, accounting for more than a third of Derby’s goals in the Championship. He’s favourite to bag first, and a 2-1 home win looks like a solid prediction.
