In a sentence: Deportivo host Eibar at the Riazor with the threat of relegation looming large over Los Branquiazuis.

Last time: Neither side managed to make a breakthrough when the teams met back in October, playing out a goalless draw at the Ipurua Stadium.

This time: The bookmakers are calling this as a tight one, with Deportivo 17/10 for the win, Eibar 9/5 and the draw 12/5.

You might remember: Eibar recording a memorable 3-1 win over Deportivo last season. It was a first victory for Los Armeros in the Spanish top flight over their more illustrious opponents, with Depor winning four of the five La Liga meetings before that.

Deportivo welcome Eibar to the Riazor looking to haul themselves out of La Liga’s relegation zone

Deportivo and Eibar had very different results in the midweek round of La Liga fixtures, and they have very different ambitions for the remainder of this season. Depor were summarily dispatched 3-0 at Getafe on Wednesday, while Los Armeros beat Villarreal to close within three points of their fellow European-chasing rivals.

Deportivo are 17/10 to pick up a first win under Seedorf, with the bookies making them ever so slight favourites for the game. Los Branquiazuis are languishing in the relegation zone, and they need to start picking up some points if they want to overhaul Las Palmas and Levante.

Eibar are 9/5 to secure another big three points, as they go in hunt of what would be a hugely impressive Europa League place. Jose Luis Mendilibar’s side have shown consistent improvement since arriving at the top table of Spanish football, and their fans would love to take the burgeoning party out onto the continent.

The draw is 12/5, which would be a third stalemate between the teams in the last five meetings. A repeat of the goalless draw they played out earlier this term is priced at 10/1, while a 1-1 scoreline has the shortest odds of any result at 6/1.

Deportivo have struggled for goals all season, but at least forwards Florin Andone, Adrian and Lucas Perez are spreading the goals between them. They have six, five and four this season respectively, and are 13/2, 9/1 and 17/2 to break the deadlock on Saturday.

Brazilian Charles is Eibar’s top scorer in La Liga with six goals from 20 games, and he’s available at 13/2 in the first goalscorer market. He’s 23/10 to net anytime, and 10/3 to score in an away victory.

Match Summary

1

Look out for:

A 1-0 scoreline. Eibar’s last two wins have finished 1-0, and they’re 17/2 to make it three in a row. Deportivo haven’t won a game since they beat Leganes 1-0 in early December, and they’re also 17/2 to win by the same margin.

2

We fancy:

Eibar to win to nil at 4/1. Mendilibar has his team performing brilliantly, while opposite number Seedorf can’t get his new charges going. Los Armeros don’t fire in too many goals, but Depor concede more than two a game on average.

3

It’s a long shot, but:

Andone to score the only goal of the game is 30/1. The 24-year-old Romanian is Deportivo’s top scorer, and his team need his goals if they’re going to avoid the drop. This would be a priceless first win for Seedorf.
