In a sentence: With both teams falling slightly off the pace in their domestic league title chases, can CSKA and Lyon take one step closer to silverware in otherwise disappointing seasons?

Last time: This will be the first time these two have ever faced off against each other in a competitive fixture.

This time: CSKA to win is at 8/5, a draw is 11/5 and an away win is priced at 7/4.

You might remember: Both of these teams have rich domestic histories, but only CSKA have ever won a major European competition, the UEFA Cup back in 2005.

Betting Tips & Predictions

CSKA Moscow’s last home defeat came in October against Basel

These two big names of European football haven’t exactly been themselves as of late, with CSKA far off their Moscow rivals Lokomotiv in their race for the Russian Premier Liga title. Lyon meanwhile are 23 points behind PSG, nine points behind second placed Monaco and four points off of Marseille as they find themselves in a race to get into the Champions League spots in Ligue 1.

Looking at the form of the two sides poses an interesting question of who to back seeing as Lyon are struggling for a win in Ligue 1 but their last two victories came in the last round against Villarreal, so a 0-1 win for Les Gones is priced at 7/1.

CSKA, on the other hand, will see this as a good opportunity to capitalise on a side in poor form and a 2-0 home win will get you a price of 12/1 and 2-1 to Moscow being 9/1, which may be the smarter bet as it’s hard to see Lyon not grabbing a goal in Russia.

Another bet that might look promising is BTTS, with both teams scoring at 5/4 and one side keeping a clean sheet priced at 19/20. It’s likely that both teams will find the back of the net in the first leg of this tie, so it would be better to pick a specific score if you want to get better odds on a final score.

Match Summary

Look out for:

A goal in the first five minutes of this clash would really make it an exciting game, with a goal in the first five priced at 6/1 and for no goals to be scored in the opening minutes being at 1/12.

We fancy:

A 1-1 seems quite likely given how neither one of these teams will want to risk too much, which is at 11/2.

It’s a long shot, but:

A 3-3 would obviously be a great result for Lyon but it would be superb for the neutrals, and it’s priced at 66/1.
