In a sentence: A London derby between two teams in decent form. It’s the only match on Thursday night, so the post-Christmas TV audience will expect to be entertained.

Last time: A surprising 3-0 win for Crystal Palace in April. Goals from Townsend, Cabaye and a penalty from Milivojevic saw Sam Allardyce’s Eagles take a massive step towards ensuring their Premier League safety for another year.

This time: Crystal Palace are 9/2 to win with Arsenal at 13/19 and the draw 10/3.

You might remember: Arsenal winning 2-0 in 2013, despite having Mikel Arteta (who had scored the opening goal from the penalty spot) sent off with 25 minutes to go.

Arsenal’s Alexandre Lacazette celebrates scoring his side’s second goal of the game from the penalty spot

This isn’t one of the classic ties that springs to mind when you think of a London derby, but there have been some entertaining meetings down the years. The last few meetings at Selhurst Park in particular have all seen several goals.

Crystal Palace are 9/2 to win it and with their impressive home form recently, it is a distinct possibility. The Eagles have won three and drawn three of the last six on home turf, and that run includes a victory over the champions. They’ve also scored a lot of late goals recently, so they can be counted on to keep fighting to the end.

Arsenal are 13/19 and they will certainly be looking for all three points. Although they lost here last season, the Gunners did win on their previous three visits to this corner of south London. They are also unbeaten in their last three away league games, and only three teams in the division currently have a longer unbeaten run on the road.

The draw is 10/3 and with little to separate these two teams in the form book, a stalemate could be the order of the day. Palace are in great form at Selhurst Park, and Arsenal have only lost one of their last five away from home, so there’s a chance they will cancel each other out.

Christian Benteke is 11/4 to score anytime and may be on the verge of bagging a few goals. The big Belgian recently broke his scoring duck for the season, and with the amount of good chances he has missed in 2017-18, he is more than a due for a few to go in. He has scored three times against Arsenal in the past too.

Alexandre Lacazette is the 23/20 favourite to score anytime and he is surely on the verge of a goal rush. The Frenchman has missed countless clear-cut chances in the last few weeks, so with his pedigree he should start knocking plenty in soon enough. Crystal Palace beware.

Match Summary

Look out for:

Over 2.5 goals, at ¾. The last three meetings at Selhurst Park have featured three goals, and these teams are both near the top of the charts for seeing over 2.5 goals when home or away as appropriate. Although Palace are unbeaten in their last six at home, the away side has scored every time so expect a few goals in this one.

We fancy:

Arsenal to win to nil, at 2-1. Although their backline hasn’t been watertight on the road this season, there has only been a total of three goals across the Gunners’ last three away league matches. If this is similarly tight, then their attacking quality should see them win the day.

It’s a long shot, but:

Arsenal to win at half time, Crystal Palace to win at full time, at 45/1. The Eagles have already come from behind to win twice this season, and only Manchester City have done so more often. Arsenal also have a defeat after scoring first under their belts too. It’s 45/1 for a reason, but the formbook suggests it shouldn’t be ruled out entirely.
