In a sentence: After reaching the FA Cup Final last season, Chelsea are determined to go one step further this campaign, with Newcastle standing in their way on Sunday.

Last time: Chelsea won 3-1 at Stamford Bridge at the start of December, thanks to a double from Eden Hazard and one from Alvaro Morata.

This time: Chelsea are 4/9 to win, while a Newcastle victory is at 15/2 and the draw is 4/1.

You might remember: Newcastle actually took the lead at Stamford Bridge in this season’s Premier League clash, with Dwight Gayle’s 12th minute goal giving the Magpies a great start in West London.

Chelsea’s Eden Hazard celebrates after scoring at Stamford Bridge

Despite these two sides’ recent lack of victories, Chelsea have still got that ability to turn on the style and put teams away, like they did against Brighton last weekend. The Blues have a special relationship with the FA Cup, and will fancy themselves to get past the Magpies at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues’ form hasn’t been the greatest as of late, despite not losing since 9 December. A shootout victory against Norwich helped Chelsea advance to the fourth round of the cup, but as a win on penalties is still technically a draw, Conte’s side had drawn their last four games before their 4-0 victory at Brighton on Saturday. At 4/9, they still start this game as favourites in the betting though.

After a decent start to their Premier League campaign, Newcastle have hit a bit of a sticky patch, dropping to 16th and just two points above the relegation zone. Last week’s defeat to Manchester City can offer some hope in that they managed to score against a formidable outfit, and defended well enough for a large part of the game. The visitors are priced at 15/2 to record a shock win in this one.

Given Chelsea’s recent run of draws, another one at 4/1 could be worth a punt. The goalless draw is 14/1, while a 1-1 scoreline is 9/1. Or if you fancy Newcastle for the upset, a 1-0 win for Rafa’s men is 22/1.

As for goalscorers, Eden Hazard is 4/1 to break the deadlock and 6/5 to score anytime. Dwight Gayle is priced at 7/2 to get on the scoresheet for the visitors, and if you think he’ll get the Magpies off to another great start, he’s 10/1 to open the scoring.

Match Summary

1

Look out for:

Bookings. Both sides have players who can occasionally lose their cool, so we could see a few cards. If one of those bookings leads to a penalty, Chelsea are 9/2 to score a spot kick.

2

We fancy:

Chelsea to win with Willian getting on the scoresheet at 13/2. The Brazilian netted a beauty against Brighton on Saturday and has the talent to do it again.

3

It's a long shot, but:

Jonjo Shelvey has a knack for scoring the occasional long range wonder strike, and he’s 10/1 to score anytime on Sunday or 28/1 to grab the first goal of the game.
