Betting Tips & Predictions

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers will expect his side to see of Partick Thistle in this Glasgow derby

Having achieved the domestic treble in his debut season at the club, Rodgers will want to repeat this feat second time around. Safe passage for the next phase will be the perfect preparation for the tough European tie the club have to navigate later on this month and the Ulsterman needs his squad firing on all cylinders.

Celtic are predictably the overwhelming favourites at 2/9 and are expected to bounce back from their unexpected setback at Rugby Park in dominant fashion. Don’t be surprised if Thistle are on the receiving end of a backlash and the hosts advance in dominant fashion.

The Jags are priced at 14/1 and while they did give a good account of themselves in the contest at Firhill Stadium, it would be an enormous upset for Celtic to lose consecutive matches. Despite this, they do have a glimmer of hope. Form, as well as league position notoriously goes out of the window on cup weekend and there is the added incentive for fringe players to stake a claim for a regular spot in the side.

A draw and a subsequent replay is 15/4 and would benefit neither outfit. Celtic have aspirations of a last 16 place in Europe’s second competition and Thistle, while improved, are not yet certain of a spot in the Premier League next year. A stalemate is extremely unlikely.

Sinclair is 3/1 to notch the game’s first goal and get Celtic on their way to the next round. The former Chelsea starlet has 18 strikes to his name this campaign and is a level above most in the division.

Doolan is 19/1 to open the scoring and give Rodgers’ men an early scare. The striker has spent a decade at Thistle, hitting the net over a 100 times and will give everything to the cause.

Match Summary

Look out for:

Musonda to get his first goal for the club, anytime during the 90 at 9/1. The sparkling talent needed the short term move and will be desperate to show Antonio Conte what he can do at a time where parent club Chelsea are struggling for goals and creativity. The 21-year-old should thrive under the tutelage of Rodgers who is an advocate of fast, free-flowing football.

We fancy:

Celtic to score in both-halves at 11/1. The Bhoys will not misunderestimate the opposition but will have too much for their fellow Glaswegians.

It’s a long shot, but:

Thistle to win 3-1 is a staggering 90/1.
