In a sentence: It’s a fight between second from top against third from bottom as Cardiff City host Birmingham City on Saturday.

Last time: Birmingham shocked Cardiff with a 1-0 when they played them at St Andrew’s back in October. Che Adams scored his first goal on the season to earn his side the three points, as the Blues played on the front foot.

This time: Cardiff are 4/7 to win, Birmingham 5/1 and a draw is 3/1.

You might remember: The last time that Cardiff beat their weekend rivals, three years ago to the month. The Bluebirds won 2-0, helped by a goal from Eoin Doyle and a penalty scored by Peter Whittingham.

Promotion hopefuls Cardiff City haven’t lost any of their last seven games

Cardiff are flying high, and are on the best form in the league over their past six matches. Their opposition, Birmingham, come into the game with the worst form in the league, having lost their last six matches in a row.

Cardiff are 4/7 to win, and anything other than a heavy victory would come as a real surprise. In their five game winning streak they have beaten the likes of Bristol City and Middlesbrough, and their run is unlikely to stop this weekend.

Birmingham are 5/1 to win, and will draw hope from their last game against the Bluebirds. A change of manager tends to bring a positive reaction out of a side, if just in the short-term, and the players will all be looking to impress Monk. Having scored just once in their last six, it will take a major turn-around for the for the former Swansea manager to achieve anything on his return to Wales.

A draw is 3/1 and it would take an uncharacteristically gritty performance from the Blues to take a point away from Cardiff at home.

David Junior Hoilett is 6/5 to score anytime against Birmingham, and with centre-forward Kenneth Zahore looking off the pace in his last game, the winger will be heavily relied upon to come up with the goods this weekend.

Sam Gallagher is 3/1 to score this weekend, and is the only Birmingham player to have scored more than five goals this season.

Match Summary

Look out for:

Shared goalscoring responsibility. Cardiff’s title push has continued despite lacking a double-digit-scoring player, a rare occurrence. Instead, the goal load has been shared, with seven players scoring four or more this season. Callum Patterson has six to his name from central midfield and is 4/1 to score anytime.

We fancy:

Cardiff to win to nil at 5/4. Birmingham have failed to score in all but one of their last six games and should be too occupied defending to offer much of an attacking threat.

It’s a long shot, but:

Sean Morrison to score first at 20/1. The centre-back has scored in two of his last three games, and, against a packed Birmingham defence, his physical presence at set pieces may come in handy.
