Cardiff City vs Barnsley Betting Tips, Preview & Predictions

In a sentence: Second top plays fourth bottom, so there’s surely only one outcome on the cards here?

Last time: Barnsley won 4-3 thanks to a 95th minute winner. This game may get mentioned again shortly.

This time: Cardiff City are 11/17 to win with Barnsley at 59/10 and the draw 10/3.

You might remember: The sentence two lines ago. Sean Morrison gave the hosts a third minute lead, but by half time Barnsley were 3-1 ahead. Anthony Pilkington equalised for the Bluebirds in the 89th minute, but Ryan Williams completed the scoring in a remarkable match six minutes later.

Betting Tips & Predictions

Cardiff City’s only home defeat in their last five fixtures came against Manchester City

With both teams having their weekend fixtures postponed they will be well rested ahead of this midweek clash. Both sides need the points, but it’s hard to see past a home win in this one.

Cardiff City are 11/17 to win, and the Bluebirds are in fabulous form at present. Neil Warnock’s side have won six and drawn two of their last eight Championship matches. City have won their last four at home, scoring eight and conceding none. They will expect to add to that tally here.

Barnsley are 59/10 to take the points, and whilst a victory for them would be a shock, they have had better results on the road compared to at Oakwell. The Tykes have won two of their last five away league matches, but they were against lowly Sunderland and Birmingham. This will be a significantly tougher challenge for them.

The draw is available at 10/3. Neither side is near the top of the Championship table when it comes to draws, and with their contrasting positions on the league table, it’s hard to see a stalemate in this match.

Junior Hoilett can be backed at 6/1 to score the first goal, or 9/4 to net a goal at some point. The former Blackburn man is Cardiff’s top scorer in the Championship, with eight goals, and has found the back of the net four times in his last ten appearances.

Tom Bradshaw is priced at 4/1 to get on the score sheet, or 11/1 to break the deadlock. Like Hoilett, Bradshaw has eight league goals this season, but he hasn’t scored in any of his last ten games. Can he get back on the goal trail here?

Predicted Score: Cardiff City 2 - 0 Barnsley

Match Summary

1

Look out for:

A low card count. Both of these sides are in the Championship’s six best behaved sides this season, and the last six meetings have averaged just three yellow cards in total.

2

We fancy:

Cardiff to win to nil, at 6/4. The Bluebirds have the best home defensive record in the division, and have won their last four league games on the spin without conceding.

3

It’s a long shot, but:

Barnsley to win 2-0, at 35/1. The Tykes’ last two away wins in the Championship have seen them keep a clean sheet, and they will probably need to do so here if they are to defeat Cardiff.
