Match Summary

1 Look out for:

Nick Powell. The Wigan system is very much set up to suit the attacking midfielder – and justifiably so given the his impressive goal tally last season. Fielded as a No 10, the former Manchester United starlet benefits from the space granted to him and has already notched up three goals this season.

12/5 Powell to score anytime

2 We fancy:

A one-goal margin. Brentford’s last three games have been decided by just one goal, as have Wigan’s last two, so it’s highly likely that this may be the case again on Saturday.

6/4 One-goal margin

3 It's a long shot, but…

Wigan to win 2-1. As the Lactics showed last season, they are highly capable of playing on the counterattack – something that they will certainly get the chance to do at Griffin Park. An early goal for Paul Cook’s side would cause panic for Brentford.

14/1 Wigan to win 2-1

One to Watch: Ollie Watkins

The 22-year-old winger is very much Brentford’s crown jewel and is even receiving tips for an England call-up. Watkins has justified the hype so far this season, scoring four goals and providing an assist in the Bees’ first six league games, operating both from his natural left flank and as cover up front. Quick, tall and with a lethal shot from distance, the former Exeter ace is definitely the danger man for the hosts.

5/1 Watkins to score first

Neal Maupey should return to the Bees’ starting XI, having served a three-match ban for violent conduct. This is a major boost for manager Dean Smith, whose only other natural striker is 19-year-old Marcus Foss.

Paul Cook will likely drop Callum Connelly in favour of regular right winger Gavin Massey, with the remainder of Wigan’s line-up looking similar to the one that started their win against Rotherham.

Brentford vs Wigan Athletic Betting Tips, Preview & Predictions

Will home advantage keep Brentford’s run going?

Brentford will be out to continue their push for a top-three spot when they host Wigan Athletic on Saturday. Their newly-promoted opponents have looked good value for the Championship after recovering from a poor start.

Brentford are 3/4 to win, having done so in their last two consecutive games, although they suffered a shock defeat to Blackburn Rovers the previous week. Dean Smith will be able to welcome back his star forward in Neal Maupay, allowing the other components of the Bees’ front line to slot back into place.

Wigan are 3/1 to beat Brentford – a tough ask, given the home side’s strong start to the season. The Latics have reason to hope however, having recently beaten Stoke City 3-0 at the bet365 stadium.

A draw is 13/5 and would suit Wigan perfectly. As a result, Paul Cook may set his side up to defend for the point, handing the impetus to Brentford to score.

Maupey is favourite to score at 10/11. The French striker is set to return from a three-match ban, meaning he has only played four games this season. Nonetheless, he leads the Championship scoring charts with five goals and three assists to his name.

Will Grigg is 2/1 to score anytime and is close on Maupay’s heels, having scored three goals this term. Whether Cook decides to start the Northern Ireland interntional is a different matter, with the forward having played, and scored, during the international break.

Predicted Score: Brentford 2 - 1 Wigan Athletic
