In a sentence: This should be an easy win for the German giants.

Last time: Bayern won 2-0 in the Champions League group stages in 1997/98. Thomas Helmer and Mario Basler got the goals, and the Germans also won 2-0 in Turkey that season.

This time: Bayern Munich are 2/11 to win with Besiktas at 22/1 and the draw 8/1.

You might remember: Bayern beating Turkish opponents 7-1 on aggregate in 1972. It’s more likely you’ll recall Besiktas beating RB Leipzig home and away in the group stage this season.

Bayern Munich host Besiktas at the Allianz Arena in the Champions League knockout stages

There were some big wins in the Champions League last week, and this has the potential to be another match with a large scoreline. However, Besiktas became the first Turkish team to top a Champions League group this season, so won’t roll over ahead of the second leg on March 14.

Bayern Munich are just 2/11 to win, and as they’ve won their last 13 matches in all competitions, understandably so. The Germans have reached the quarter-finals for the last six seasons in a row, and will expect to do so again in 2018.

Besiktas can be backed at a whopping 22/1 to take a lead home ahead of the second leg. They are unbeaten in their last seven European matches, but winning in Munich will be a massive ask.

The draw is priced at 8/1. Besiktas have drawn eight times in the league, and they also tied twice in their Champions League group. Bayern haven’t drawn a match since October, though, and a stalemate here would be a surprising result.

Robert Lewandowski is 85/40 to open the scoring, and it’s no surprise that he’s the favourite to do so. The Polish international has scored 23 goals in total in the Bundesliga and Champions League in 2017/18. Lewandowski is priced at just 1/2 to get on the scoresheet, or 13/5 to score two or more.

Anderson Talisca is 8/1 to bag a goal on Tuesday night, or 25/1 to score first and give Besiktas a shock lead. The Brazilian is their top scorer in both the league and Europe this season, with nine and four goals in each competition respectively.

Match Summary

1

Look out for:

A high card count. Besiktas have received the second most yellow cards in the Champions League this season, and Bayern, with 13, have had just two fewer.

2

We fancy:

Bayern Munich to win and over 2.5 goals at 4/7. The German champions have played 15 home games in all competitions in 2017/18, and this has been the outcome 12 times.

3

It’s a long shot, but:

Alvaro Negredo to score first at 16/1. The Spanish veteran has scored seven Champions League goals in his career, including one against Bayern Munich while playing for Manchester City.
