Barnsley host Burton at Oakwell in the Championship on Tuesday

With both of these sides sitting in the Championship relegation zone, the stakes couldn’t be higher at Oakwell. Barnsley are currently two points ahead of bottom club Burton, but the Tykes have a game in hand which makes this even more important for the visitors.

Barnsley are available at evens to secure a vital victory on Tuesday. With their solitary win since early November coming at Sunderland on New Year’s Day, Morais’ side are in poor form and deep trouble. They managed to end a three-match losing streak at home to Sheffield Wednesday in their last game, and need to go one better against the Brewers.

Burton are 15/4 to pick up the three points, which would put them right back in the hunt for survival. Defeat would be a real hammer blow, but history isn’t on the visitors’ side. The Brewers haven’t managed to beat Barnsley in any of their six meetings to date, and after seven games without a win, changing that record doesn’t seem likely.

The draw is 12/5 and could be on the cards considering the form of both sides. Burton’s last two games have ended goalless, while there were three successive draws between the teams before Barnsley’s victory at the Pirelli Stadium earlier this season. Two of those were also goalless, and a repeat of that scoreline on Tuesday is priced at 8/1.

Tom Bradshaw is the 5/1 favourite to break the deadlock in this one. The Welsh international has 11 goals to his name in all competitions this season, and is 2/1 to score anytime.

Burton are hoping that loan signing Bent will deliver the goals needed to fire them to safety, and he’s 3/1 to open his account for the Brewers during the 90 minutes. If he does so with the first goal of the game, the odds are 8/1.

Match Summary

1

Look out for:

Nerves. This is a crucial games for both teams, which is likely to make for a cagey encounter. The bookmakers agree, and have a 1-0 Barnsley win down for the shortest odds at 11/2.

2

We fancy:

Barnsley to win to nil at 2/1. This looks a good way to double your odds on a home victory, with Burton scoring just 24 goals all season and failing to find the back of the net in their last two games.

3

It’s a long shot, but:

If the two sides go for it with the threat of relegation looming large, then a bet on both teams to score with over four cards and 11 corners in the game could come into play at 16/1.
