Match Summary

1 Look out for:

Silky skills. In players such as Jack Grealish and Yannick Bolasie, Villa have a couple of players with dazzling skills that perhaps belong in the Premier League. They are 9/1 and 13/2 to get the first goal in your football betting tips for the weekend.

2 We fancy:

Villa are 5/2 with bet365 to win with both teams scoring as part of your football predictions. Villa kept their first clean sheet of the season in midweek, but Wednesday have scored twice as many goals as Rotherham and carry a greater threat in the final third.

3 It's a long shot, but…

Although Villa beat Wednesday 4-2 at Hillsborough last season, the Owls managed a 2-1 victory at Villa Park in the first meeting between the sides earlier in the campaign. The visitors are 16/1 with bet365 to match that result in your football score predictions.

One to Watch: Tammy Abraham

Tammy Abraham has stepped down to the Championship on loan from Chelsea, as he looks for plenty of playing time in his development. He notched his first goal for Villa against Rotherham on Tuesday, and will be looking to kick on now.

His midweek goal came just before the half-hour mark, as he opened the scoring for the Villans. Abraham is 15/4 with 10bet to repeat the trick on Saturday afternoon, and he’s available at 7/4 in a score/win double.

Scott Hogan should be available for the Villans after missing their opening fixtures with a groin injury. Keinan Davis has a similar issue but is a doubt, while midfielder Harry McKirdy is out with a dislocated shoulder.

Wednesday boss Jos Luhukay has no injuries or suspensions to worry about coming into this game. He could shake things up after a defeat on Wednesday, but that could affect your football prediction for Saturday’s match.

Aston Villa vs Sheffield Wednesday Betting Tips, Preview & Predictions

Jack Grealish has the ability to inspire Aston Villa to victory against Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday

Aston Villa host Sheffield Wednesday at Villa Park on Saturday afternoon in this Championship preview. Six places separate the sides coming into this game, but that only translates into two points at this early stage of the season.

Villa are 5/8 for the win as part of the Championship predictions for this game. Steve Bruce’s side recorded a 2-0 victory over Rotherham on Tuesday night, with loan duo Tammy Abraham and Yannick Bolasie getting the goals. Their only defeat so far this season came against their visitors on Saturday’s local rivals, Sheffield United, and the Villans are favourites for this one.

Wednesday are 21/4 to take all three points back to Yorkshire with them. The Owls fell to their third defeat of the new campaign at Nottingham Forest on Wednesday, and they seem set to have another inconsistent season just like last time. They’re only two points off the play-off places at this early stage though, which is nothing if they can put together a decent run in the push for promotion.

The draw is 33/10 and would certainly suit the visitors more than the home side. Villa are desperate for a return to the top flight this season after losing in the play-off final last time round, and failure to do so could be terminal for manager Steve Bruce. The Villans have plenty of quality in their midst and a draw would be a disappointing result against this Wednesday side.

If he does indeed return to the fold, Scott Hogan just 18/5 with a number of bookmakers to open the scoring. Jonathan Kodija is 9/2 in the same football prediction market, while for the visitors, Gary Hooper and Steven Fletcher are 10/1 and 21/2 respectively.

Predicted Score: Aston Villa 3 - 1 Sheffield Wednesday
