Aston Villa vs Reading Betting Tips, Preview & Predictions

In a sentence: Promotion chasing Aston Villa will hope to end a recent poor run of form at home to mid-table Reading on Tuesday night at Villa Park in the Sky Bet Championship.

Last time: Reading were 2-1 winners at the Madejski back at the start of the season in August in the reverse fixture.

This time: Villa start as favourites at 8/13, the draw at 16/5 and Reading are out at 27/5 for an away win.

You might remember: The last time Villa beat the Royals at home was back in 2012 in the Premier League, when a late Christian Benteke goal won the game for Villa 1-0 at Villa Park.

Betting Tips & Predictions

Villa Park has seen plenty of goals this season – expect more against Reading

In this Sky Bet Championship preview, we will be looking at Tuesday night’s league match between fourth-placed Aston Villa and 19th-placed Reading. Villa will be looking to end a three-match run without a victory, which has seen them fall away from the automatic promotion places into fourth.

As for Reading, they will be looking to use the weekend’s 1-0 win over QPR in Paul Clement’s first game in charge as a launch pad for some better results. It has been an extremely poor season for the Royals after making the play-off final last season and are still in danger of being relegated, as they sit just five points clear of 22nd placed Barnsley, proving that football predictions in the Championship are a tricky business.

Villa start the game as favourites, but their 8/13 price looks a little short given their poor form of late. Two defeats to QPR and Bolton before Saturday’s stalemate at Hull looks to have ended their hopes of automatic promotion but need to end this poor run to ensure they finish in that third position, which Fulham now hold. They had won 10 of their previous 12 games before this three-game winless run and will be confident of beating this Reading side at home.

Reading have conceded 57 goals this season, which is 20 more than Villa and have leaked at least two goals in three of their last five games. Paul Clement has taken over as manager so Reading could be revitalised, especially after their 1-0 win over QPR on Friday. Reading have struggled on the road this season however and have just one win in their last nine away league games, losing five of those and scoring just eight goals in the process. Villa to score two + goals at 8/11 makes up one of our free football betting tips for this game.

Villa are unbeaten in 14 of their last 16 league games at Villa Park this season and have performed well at home all season and given Reading have won just five games on their travels all campaign, Villa should be confident of picking up three points here. Reading have kept one clean sheet in their past 13 away Championship games and Villa have won with both teams to score in three of their last six home games, so that bet is another of our football predictions for today at 13/5.

Predicted Score: Aston Villa 3 - 1 Reading

Match Summary

Look out for:

Villa to score 2+ goals at 8/11 is one of our football predictions for this game. Villa have scored 18 goals in their last seven home games and Reading have conceded two or more in three of their last four away games.

We fancy:

Aston Villa to win and both teams to score at 13/5 is the foremost of our Championship predictions. Villa score a lot of goals at home but Reading will be confident after their 1-0 win at the weekend and can pose a threat to a home side who have kept just one clean sheet in their last four games.

It’s a long shot, but:

Villa to win 3-1 tops our football score predictions for this game at 13/1. Villa have scored three or more in four of their last five home victories but have struggled to keep clean sheets recently so this could be worth a punt.
