In a sentence: Automatic promotion-chasing Aston Villa host Queens Park Rangers at Villa Park in the Championship on Tuesday, with the visitors having little to play for as the season heads towards its climax.

Last time: Despite falling behind to a Jamie Mackie goal early on when the teams met at Loftus Road in November, Villa recovered to win 2-1 thanks to an Albert Adomah brace.

This time: Aston Villa are 3/4 for the win, while QPR are 5/1 and the draw is 3/1.

You might remember: Jonathan Kodjia scoring after five minutes when the teams met at Villa Park last season. The Ivory Coast international also scored the only goal of the game in the meeting earlier in the campaign – continue reading our Championship preview to see if he has a chance of doing the same this time round.

Betting Tips & Predictions

Aston Villa captain John Terry is looking to lead his side back to the Premier League, with QPR next up at Villa Park

With Aston Villa in good form and pushing for a return to the Premier League, a home win looks like being a strong bet if you’re looking for a strong football prediction in midweek. QPR are some 26 points back from the third-placed Villans, although Championship predictions aren’t always straightforward.

Aston Villa are 3/4 to pick up the win, and this looks a decent price though considering their aspirations for reaching the top flight. Bruce’s side ran out 4-1 winners against local rivals Wolves on Saturday, but there’s still a four-point gap to Cardiff in the second automatic promotion spot after the South Wales side also won at the weekend.

QPR are 5/1 to record just their third away win of the campaign, so there look to be better football predictions out there this week than a win for the Rs. Ian Holloway’s side have scored 15 goals in their 17 Championship fixtures on the road this term, so they could trouble the scoresheet if you like betting on more than just outright results.

The draw is 3/1 and could be worth a shout if you think there could be an upset on the cards. Villa have slipped to five draws on home turf this season, while QPR have taken an away point on five occasions.

Grabban and Hogan are both priced at 5/1 in the first goalscorer market on Tuesday, while Adomah is 11/2 after doing so against Wolves at the weekend. For the visitors, top scorer Matt Smith is 9/1 for the same bet.

Match Summary

Look out for:

The return of Kodjia. The forward is back in contention following surgery on his ankle, and if you like to be sentimental in your football predictions, he’s available at 6/1 to score first or 50/1 to bag the only goal of the game for the third time in his last three appearances against QPR.

We fancy:

Aston Villa to win and both teams to score at 3/1. With the hosts in strong form in their push for promotion, they should have enough to see off a QPR side that’s still a threat. A 3-1 win for the Villans is priced at 57/4.

It’s a long shot, but:

The most recent draw between the two sides came the last time they played each other in the Premier League. A repeat of that 3-3 scoreline priced at 90/1, which could be worth a punt as an outside bet in this week’s football score predictions.
