In a sentence: The Second City Derby is always one to watch no matter what form either side are in and given their respective positions in the league, this is a much see game.

Last time: A tight and testing 0-0 at St. Andrews meant we would have to wait a few more months before one team reigned supreme in the Midlands.

This time: Villa to win is at 7/10, a draw is 12/5 and a win for Birmingham would be priced at 9/2.

You might remember: The last time Birmingham beat Villa was back in 2010 when goals from Sebastian Larsson and Nikola Zigic won them a League Cup quarter final tie.

Betting Tips & Predictions

Birmingham City would love nothing more than getting one over Aston Villa at Villa Park

These two sides come into this fixture in two completely different expectations and goals for the game and the rest of the season. Aston Villa are flying high at the top of the Championship, currently in third place and just one point behind Derby County in the race for the final automatic promotion place, with Birmingham just four points off of relegation.

But seeing as this is a derby game, form goes out of the window. If you want both teams to score draw, you’ll get a price of 23/10. However, a 3-1 Villa win is at 16/1 with the reverse of that score in favour of Birmingham being at 50/1, so maybe a bit of the derby day nerves could throw up a shock result.

New Villa signing Lewis Grabban has a track record of being productive in the Championship, and he’s priced at 7/2 to score first and 5/4 to score at any time. For the Blues however, the best bet may be on Sam Gallagher, who has six Championship goals this season, is 15/2 to score first.

A score draw could be the most likely of outcomes given what is at stake here, with 1-1 being 13/2, 2-2 being 20/1 and a surprising 3-3 draw could get you a price at 100/1.

Match Summary

1

Look out for:

Gabby Agbonlahor loves scoring against Birmingham, and is 11/2 to score first and continue his great derby day scoring record.

2

We fancy:

A comfortable 3-1 Villa win could be a key bet to go for and can be priced at 16/1.

3

It’s a long shot, but:

Che Adams has only scored two Championship goals all season, so the odds on him scoring a hat trick should be sky high, right? Absolutely, it is priced at 300/1…
