Kalshi perhaps has one of the most diverse collections of prediction markets you can find, but we’ve always found that Kalshi sports events trading is typically the category that has the most traction and volume.
As you will see below, if you sign up to this exchange, you will be able to trade predictions on a number of different sports and events including the F1, NBA, NFL, MLB, European Soccer, and golf. Read on as we explain how sports prediction trading works at Kalshi, and how you can get involved with the action.
How do Kalshi sports events contracts work?
Kalshi is a prediction trading exchange. It facilitates the trading of yes and no contracts relating to real-world predictions. A major part of this exchange is Kalshi sports events trading. For example, we saw the following sports prediction - “Who will win the Champions League? (Soccer)”. There were then a range of teams such as Arsenal and Bayern Munich, with yes or no options for each of them - as you will see below, these yes or no options are the things that you will be trading with other customers via the P2P exchange.
Each prediction has yes or no trade contracts
We gave you the above example of “Who will win the Champions League? (Soccer)”. We can use this to demonstrate how the sports predictions work at Kalshi, because next to that prediction, you had the following options:
- Arsenal: Yes (28c), No (74c).
- Bayern Munich: Yes (22c), No (79c).
- Barcelona: Yes (18c), No (83c).
This means that for example, if you were pretty confident in Arsenal, you could buy the “yes” trade contract option for $0.28 each. The price will always be below $1, as the standard trade contract at Kalshi is worth $1.
You can buy and sell those trade contracts from other people
If you chose to go with the “yes” option in the above example, you would then enter how many trade contracts you wanted to buy, and execute a trade order where you would buy the contracts from another customer. This is because Kalshi is a peer-2-peer trading exchange with no odds or house edge involved. With your trade contract purchased, you then have two options:
- Sell your “yes” trade contracts.
- Hold your “yes” trade contracts until the event.
Let’s say that the “yes” option increases to 75c per contract, as Bayern and Barcelona both fall in form or incur some injuries. You could sell your trade contracts at 75c each minus any fees, meaning you had made a return based on your original purchase price of 28c each.
Alternatively, if you really did believe that Arsenal were going to win it all, you could hold your trade contracts and wait. If it did transpire that they won the Champions League, you would get a $1 return minus any fees for each contract that successfully settled. This is the basis of sports prediction trading at Kalshi, and how you can potentially make returns - either from selling or settling your trade contracts.
Kalshi Bonus Offers:
Pros and cons of Kalshi sports event contracts
There isn’t much really wrong with the Kalshi sports predictions, and we think this is one of the strongest areas of the exchange. It offers a massive variety of sports, but also great coverage for the leagues, competitions, and individual games within them.
On top of that, you have decent trading volume and liquidity for the more popular sports, although we found that it could be more difficult to shift trade contracts for less popular sports with less global promotion. The trading fees are in-line with other operators, and from a usability perspective the sport category is organized effectively. We would like to see something like a Kalshi promo code added in the future for the sports section, or even just a general welcome bonus.
- 10+ covered sports markets
- Excellent selection of predictions
- Easy-to-use sports section
- Live sports prediction trading is available
- No sports bonuses
- Less liquidity for secondary sports
Types of sports and individual predictions you can trade at Kalshi
For this Kalshi review, we also wanted to break down the different sports predictions you can trade here. Out of all its categories, we think sports has the widest selection, as it supports these sports:
Basketball, baseball, tennis, soccer, hockey, golf, MMA, cricket, football, esports, motorsport, Aussie rules, Lacrosse, rugby, darts, chess.
That’s only the currently available sports too - you will often find that other sports predictions are available, but there might simply not be any active leagues or events. In terms of variety within those sports, we’ve noticed that the major events are covered, but Kalshi typically goes one step further and covers 2nd and 3rd tier competitions too.
For example, in the basketball predictions, you can trade contracts for the NBA, college basketball, EuroLeague, plus a host of other domestic leagues from around the world. As you dig deeper, you will also see that Kalshi offers fantastic variety in terms of the predictions for individual games. While at some other exchanges, you can only trade contracts for the outright winner, Kalshi has these options:
- Outright winners.
- Team and player propositions.
- Futures.
- Awards.
- Tournament props.
For instance, with the NBA, you’ve got outright winner predictions for all the regular season games, but you can trade predictions for things like the MVP, All-NBA first teams, and who you think will win the NBA Finals. In the table below, we’ve listed a diverse selection of actual prediction examples that we found at Kalshi while writing this guide:
| Sports Prediction | Sport | Yes Contract | No Contract | Volume |
| Who will win the NBA regular season MVP? (Shai Gilgeous-Alexander) | Basketball | 85c | 16c | $19m |
| Real Madrid vs. Barcelona (Real Madrid to win) | Soccer | 13c | 88c | $298k |
| Men’s ATP Miami Open Winner (Jannik Sinner) | Tennis | 76c | 25c | $556k |
| Los Angeles Clippers vs. Indiana Pacers (Clippers to win) | Basketball | 84c | 17c | $268k |
| F1 Drivers Champion (George Russell) | F1 | 59c | 42c | $268m |
| 2027 NFL MVP Winner? (Lamar Jackson) | Football | 12c | 89c | $832k |

We expect the Kalshi sports events trading section to only blossom from here. Indeed, since the start of the year, we have already seen a large increase in the number of different sports that you can trade predictions on at the site and Kalshi app. In time, we think there will be even more predictions, for a wider range of sports, and we expect that the trading volume will continue to grow due to the wider state availability compared to sports betting.

Kalshi sports events trading FAQs
Is sports events trading the same as betting?
Nope. Online sports betting involves odds that are set by the sportsbook, and a built-in house edge. You are betting on those odds directly against the house. However, with prediction markets, you are engaging in peer-2-peer trading of yes or no contracts with other customers. There are no odds, and no house edge - Kalshi merely charges a commission fee for facilitating your trades.
⚖️ Who can legally trade Kalshi sports predictions?
Kalshi is legally available in all 50 US states at this point in time, for those who are US residents and over 21. It can legally offer its trading exchange in the US because it complies with CFTC regulations.
Are the sports predictions at Kalshi fixed?
No, they can’t be. The predictions are set by Kalshi, however, the yes and no trade contract prices for these predictions are typically dictated by market activity and trading volume from the customers involved in the peer to peer system. There’s no odds and no margin so they cannot be fixed.
What sports contracts does Kalshi list?
At the time of writing this guide, it supports everything from basketball and soccer to tennis and MMA. You can essentially trade predictions on all the major US pro leagues, plus popular global sports from around the world. As Kalshi grows in popularity, we expect more sports predictions to be added in the future.
