Gemini Exchange has expanded to now include prediction markets. In my Gemini review I’ll be taking a look to see if it meets the standards I expect from Gemini, and how it measures up to the bigger more established names.

As a new platform that has only recently become CTFC regulated I was expecting a few teething problems. Instead I found this to be a well put together platform that takes its crypto trading pedigree and applies to a new area to provide users like you and I with something that is certainly worth a closer look.

Gemini Predictions Pros and Cons

Pros
  • Prediction market addition to established platform
  • Apes other prediction market layouts for easy use
  • Stripped down range of prediction market categories
Cons
  • Might not be different enough to make a move worthwhile

Is there any sort of Gemini bonus?

If, like me, you're used to other types of platforms that offer sign-up bonuses, you might be looking around for somewhere to put a Gemini promo code or get some sort of reward for joining Gemini. The fact is that not many prediction market platforms will give you a bonus for registering, but as these platforms are all relatively new that might change in the future. If a sign-up bonus does become available in the weeks or months to come, you’ll see it in the banners on this page along with any bonus codes you need to activate it.

This might not sound like the best start to my Gemini review, but as soon as I realized there were plenty of other benefits available, it didn’t bother me. I was more focused on the types of markets there were available and how easy the whole thing would be to use, and also, would it be different enough from what is already out there to attract users?

A simple, easy to use set-up that might look more than a little familiar

I’m familiar with Gemini Exchange's other areas, and I know that they can really nail a good, easy on the eye design that makes using a platform like this a doddle. The question for me was could they do the same for the new prediction markets area?

The simple answer here is yes, and that’s because they’ve seen what the bigger names have done when it comes to layout and design, and created their own version of it. This works well in two ways, firstly, they have the sense to not try and fix what isn’t broken, and secondly, if you want to migrate from one of the bigger platforms to Gemini, then it’s an easy move because things work pretty much the same way.

Familiar categories and trading principles

There’s not quite as many categories, at least so far, with just nine main areas:

Sports

General sporting events, with yes/no contracts like ‘will Rory McIlroy win the US Masters’

Crypto

Typically crypto price activity over specific time windows like ‘BTC up or down - 5 mins’

Commodities

Regarding price ranges of specific commodities - Copper price today $6.28 or above

Economics

Usually macro events like ‘recession this year’

Politics

Political events and elections like who will be the Republican nominee for 2028

Tech

All tech fields like which will be the biggest AI or if Nasa will land on the Moon in 2027

Business

Predictions regarding takeovers and profit news

Weather

Long term markets regarding global trends and today's temperatures in cities like New York or Boston

Culture

Predictions like who will win the nobel peace prize.

Plus some seasonal add-ons for big events like the FIFA soccer World Cup or the Midterms. This already bodes well for a newer platform, and the actual markets that I checked out seem to mirror what you’d see elsewhere. One thing I did observe is that the more celebrity driven events are not currently given a lot of coverage here, something that may, or may not, increase your interest.

The buying and trading of event contracts works the same way as other platforms as well, with the market deciding the price of a contract between $0.01 and $0.99. Correct predictions will pay $1 minus fees, with nothing coming your way for being incorrect. This makes it nice and simple for newbies, and older hands like me will love the familiarity so a big win for Gemini so far.

Simple and easy to navigate

The layout has all the main categories listed across the top, but if you have a particular market you want to check out, there’s a search bar to take you straight there. The homepage is already full of the most popular markets so you can get straight into it, but I have to say my favorite feature is the sort function top right.

Hitting that will allow you to filter markets so you can find what’s new as well as what is about to expire if you’re looking for some last minute trading action. In short, Gemini has carried on its good work in other areas to the new area of prediction markets, making it what I would consider to be a very good user experience.

Gemini app available for mobile devices

My Gemini review so far has been based purely on what I’ve seen on my laptop, and as I spend just as much time on my phone, I also need to check the mobile experience starting with the app. The Gemini exchange app is already established and in the approved app stores for Android and iOS, so no downloading worries. The prediction market section, as with the desktop platform has been added on, and it works just as well there, allowing for the obvious difference due to smaller screens.

There was certainly no loss from a performance point of view, and all of the functionality is the same - which is exactly what you would expect from a solid brand like Gemini. If you’re not into the app for whatever reason, the mobile web platform also functions just like the website so you won't feel like you’re missing anything.

Plenty of options to fund your Gemini account

As you will have seen in my Moomoo review, before you can buy or trade any event contracts you’ll need to make a deposit, and there’s no shortage of ways to do it. Given Gemini’s crypto pedigree it was no surprise to see those options for deposits well supported, but there’s a lot of choice if you want to go the FIAT route instead. You can pick from a range of card, bank and eWallet options, so you’d be hard pressed not to find a way to add funds to your account.

A word about fees, though, especially if you are new to prediction markets. Read the small print to check the exact numbers for your provider but I saw deposit fees of 3.49% on debit cards and 2.50% on Paypal. Bank deposits don’t incur fees but can take a while to reach your account. There are no fees for crypto deposits apart from any network fees, but again check the T&Cs before you make any transactions to make sure you don’t get any surprises.

Withdrawal times vary by method

Where you find plenty of options, you can also get plenty of variations when it comes to fees and timescales, and that is especially true of the withdrawals process here. Banking withdrawals are free but can take days. Wire transfers, typically used for much larger sums, will incur a $25 fee. Crypto withdrawals will usually be much faster, but again you’ve got the inevitable network fees you’ll get with any crypto transaction.

Overall, as long as you read the small print before you start, you can make an informed decision about which methods you want to use, and props to Gemini for making so many available.

Three layers of customer support makes getting help simple

I know I’ve spent a lot of my Gemini review telling you how well put together this platform is, but no matter where you go it’s almost inevitable you’ll have a problem at some point. That’s why it's important to find out what support is like early on, and for me it’s one of the biggest factors on whether I give a platform the thumbs up or not. At Gemini I found three layers of support, all of which I rate pretty highly:

  1. The Help Center - this can be found by hitting the ‘resources’ option top right and it’s full of information that can not just answer basic questions but also tell you a whole lot of things about the platform you might not have known. This is really useful, and 10 minutes here just after you sign up could save a lot of head scratching further down the line.
  2. Live chat - Hit the support button bottom right and you’ll see a chat window appear, and it works just like every other chatbot you’ve come across so no learning curve required. If you feel you’re getting nowhere, you can ask to speak to an agent, and you’ll be put through to one as soon as they are available. The chat bot itself is OK for basic stuff, but you might not trust it to solve complicated problems quickly.
  3. Support ticket - or, as Gemini calls it, a ‘guided support request’ which asks you what the problem is about, and shows you possible solutions. If none of those work, hitting ‘Contact Us’ will allow you to raise a ticket. Here you can explain in detail any in depth issues, which is always useful to getting a fast resolution.

I should also mention there's a Gemini blog filled with articles, but they’re pretty crypto focused and there’s not a lot of prediction content just yet. In a few months though, that could change, so don’t discount that as a future resource if you’re looking for ways to improve your knowledge and experience. This is a comprehensive support system that easily rivals what I found in my Coinbase review, so another plus for Gemini here.

Where are Gemini predictions available?

If you weren’t already aware, Gemini Exchange existed before prediction markets, specializing in crypto trading. So, there’s a chance you might have come across this platform before and will be aware of the solid reputation that Gemini the brand has built up over time. This isn’t a review of Gemini the brand though, I’m looking purely at prediction markets here. which are still quite a new thing and there are bound to be some questions about legality and availability.

Currently available in 45 states

Gemini predictions is a prediction markets platform, and currently these are available in 45 states. As with many new options, the situation is always evolving so always check the T&Cs before signing up to make sure you’re not wasting your time. As things stand Gemini predictions is available to anyone in at least 18 years of age in the US. If you happen to be outside the US, you’ll see the best alternative for where you are featured in the banners on this page. Gemini predictions is regulated by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), the same as the other big name platforms of the prediction market world, so no worries there.

Fully regulated by the CTFC

That also means that there are some pretty strict rules to follow. You'll need to pass KYC, which protects both you and the platform, and all the usual security like SSL encryption is in place. There’s also an option for MFA to keep your account secure, so if you’ve got any worries about the safety or legitimacy of being a user here, you can put those concerns to rest. In short, I saw no red flags here or anything that made me think I wasn’t safe.

Different types of promotions and benefits at Gemini

As I mentioned right at the start of my Gemini review, there aren’t many sign-up bonuses in the prediction market world, so no need to enter a Gemini or Coinbase promo code when you register to unlock any offers. This might make you think there are no further benefits to signing-up here, but while you won’t find any sort of VIP type bonuses, there are some additional benefits that are worth mentioning.

The Gemini referral program

If you’ve seen referral programs for other platforms here, then this one works in pretty much the same way. You navigate to your account and hit the rewards button and the ‘share link’. This will create your unique link that you can send or share and you’ll be rewarded for each eligible person that signs up using it, depending on their trading activity.

This is a long standing reward for their crypto operation, and may not have migrated to the prediction market area yet, so again check the T&Cs before you make any big plans to spread the word.

Liquidity rewards program

One program that is prediction market specific is the maker rebate program. If you’re new to prediction markets this might be an entirely new concept to you, but in short you’ll be getting USD rebates for generating liquidity in the open prediction markets. You leave open orders in the market (i.e. the price of a ‘yes’ contract in a certain market is currently $.027 but you’ve got an open order to buy queued if it reaches $0.41) to create more market depth.

You’ll get a share of the rewards pool, even if those orders don’t fill. Rewards will vary according to market, so they are calculated differently for one off events like an election, than repeating markets like 15-minute BTC prices, which will occur many times a day.

Conclusion - Gemini predictions is a great addition to a well established platform

When I discovered that Gemini Exchange were adding a predictions area to their platform, I was interested to see how they would go about it. They’ve already created a pretty solid crypto trading platform, and if they could carry that over into the predictions field, it would be good news all round. They’ve taken what has worked elsewhere and made it work here too, almost to the point where the whole thing looks and feels like one of the big boys. There are differences of course, with fewer market categories but that might work well for newbies who could be overwhelmed if they went to a bigger platform.

The back end of payments and support is excellent, so even if you’re new to all this there are plenty of options and multiple layers of help, and the whole thing is just really well put together. You might be happy where you are, but if you are thinking about a new home for your event contract trading, taking a closer look at Gemini predictions using the links on this page should certainly be on your to-do list.
